THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! My telephone number is 205-921-3489 and I would be glad for him to call me collect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Posted on: Avery Co. NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Avery/10505 Surname: REED, RASH ------------------------- I am searching for my wife's grandfather's family. Grandaddy, BUCKLEY RANDOLPH REED, was born in North Carolina on April 20, 1909. His father's name was ROBY ANDERSON REED and his mother's name was LUTISHA RASH. I believe Roby was involved in the logging business. Buckley passed away on February 3, 1996, and is buried in Louisville, Kentucky next to his father and mother. On his certificate of death Roby's birthplace is listed as Newland, North Carolina. ROBY ANDERSON REED was born on March 31, 1884. He fathered two children Buckley and HUBERT D. REED, also known as "Hub". I know that Roby and Hubert both worked in Kingsport, TN. Buckley was a strong and talented man, there was seemingly nothing he could not repair, build or grow and would certainly be considered a fine example of a Tar Heel man. Any help that I could recieve regarding Roby and Buckley's heritage would be greatly appreciated. They just don't make them like him anymore.

Posted on: Avery Co. NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/NC/Avery/10502 Surname: Perkins, Carver, Richardson, Puckett ------------------------- My name is Debra Barnett, nee Perkins. My grandfather, Arthur Perkins was from Avery County,NC. He was a descendant of Joshua Perkins, and it is only through family lore I know anything at all about the Cranberry mines. We were always told that Joshua and his brother, whose name escapes me, came to Avery County from somewhere in TN. It was likely the Shell Creek area since my some of my Perkins relatives hailed from that area. Joshua and brother were, reportedly, on the run from the law due to either assault or murder. They found the vein of ore, and according to the law of the era if they set up a hammer mill and worked it for a year they were entitled to a certain amount of the surrounding land. After that I have no idea what happened to either brother. My father, Arthur Jr., was born in WV, and raised in Avery county where he still has a number of relatives. My grandfather, Arthur Sr., lived in the Avery county area until he moved to TN in the late '40s, and on to KY where he lived until his death in '87 at the age of 93. There was a book published locally that detailed the Cranberry mine, and a search of the Avery County Library would be the place to start looking for it.

Posted on: Avery Co. NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Avery/10498 Surname: ------------------------- Has anyone in Avery County come across listings of Bible records published in FAMILY PUZZLERS, the weekly genealogy magazine edited by Mary Bondurant Warren from 1964 until 1998? I thought that HERITAGE PAPERS went out of business when Mrs. Warren stopped publishing Puzzlers the end of 1998. Not so!! I recently found the new websites for HERITAGE PAPERS as well as for FAMILY PUZZLERS, TNG, the monthly magazine edited by Mrs. Warren's daughter Amy Warren Sanders! Most of the items that Heritage Papers used to advertise in their annual catalog are still available, including back issues of the quarterly magazines GEORGIA GENEALOGIST and CAROLINA GENEALOGIST, lots of historic maps, as well as source materials for Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia. Some bound volumes of Family Puzzlers are still available. For Heritage Papers, go to http://www.galaxymall.com/books/heritagepapers For Family Puzzlers, The Next Generation, go to http://www.galaxymall.com/books/familypuzzlers I just thought you'd like to know! Posted on: Avery Co. NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/NC/Avery/10492 Surname: Wright, Fox, Aldridge ------------------------- My Wright family traces back to 1820 only. I do not have a Jennie Wright in my database. I have been told that the cemetery I was seeking was destroyed when a highway was put through some years ago. No records were kept of any of the persons buried as it was an old abandoned cemetery and no family could be found of any of the persons buried there. Is your Wright family from the same area I mentioned?
