    3. Hi, This is my first posting. I am searching for information on Robert White, born about 1780, and lived in Ashe Co., NC and Grayson Co., VA at least from 1800 to about 1825. It has been told that he married Margaret Stamper, daughter of Hiram, but I don't think this is true. Robert's known children are Alfred, born about 1807, Nancy, Margaret "Patsy", Francis "Fannie", and Lydia. Census records indicate that he may have had a much larger family. About 1825, Robert fathered a child by Rachel Becknell, daughter of Henry. Shortly following this Robert, Rachel and her family moved to Perry Co., KY, by way of Grayson Co., Va. Robert married Rachel, probably in Kentucky, and they resided in what is now Breathitt Co., KY. He had several children by her also. Apparently, his new family knew of the family he left behind in NC, but his first family never mentioned it. I would be willing to bet they new of Robert's whereabouts since all of his known children from his first marriage moved to Wise Co., Va., and eventually on into Perry, Letcher, and Pike Cos. in KY. The 1830 Ashe Co., Census lists a Nancy White, about the same age as Robert, living amongst the known children of Robert. She is most likely the abandoned wife of Robert. She still had small children at home, and it would be reasonable to think that she would stay close to her grown daughters for help. The only known son, Alfred, does not appear in any of the Ashe Co. census records. The earliest record I can find of him is the 1850 Grayson Co., Va. census. He married Elizabeth Adams, reportedly in 1845. Their oldest son, born 1847, named Micajah, reported that he was born in NC. Alfred was reportedly born in 1807, and Elziabeth in 1828, making an age difference of about 11 years. The 1850 Grayson Co Va census lists Alfred as 40 and Elziabeth as 35. The 1860 Wise Co. Census lists Alfred as 45, and Elizabeth as 28. The 1860 census is the last record of Alfred. Elizabeth appears in the 1900 Pike Co. KY census with a birthdate of June 1828, at age 71. She is listed as being widowed, having 10 children, with 9 living. Does anybody have any idea where Alfred was between 1807 and 1850? Was he in the military? This would explain why he didn't marry until he was almost 40, and why he doesn't appear in records. I did find a John White who applied for a pension for service of an Alfred White, but there is nothing to indicate that this is the same Alfred. Also, any information on anyone mentioned in this posting would be greatly appreciated. Nancy and Patsy married George and Joseph Phipps, brothers and sons of Samuel. Nancy remarried after George died in 1833, to a John Adams. I suspect that this John is closely related to Elizabeth. He was born about 1800 in NC. Lydia never married, but had several children out of wedlock. Francis married Peter Whitaker. The families were always living close to the Stampers, Phipps, Whitakers and Reedy's, in NC and VA. Any information would be appreciated. Carol
