While visiting the Montgomery County Court House today and looking through the RECORDS OF PLOTS - FINCASTLE AND MONTGOMERY COUNTIES the record of land surveyed for several people being researched on this list was available. page 127. Surveyed for Gideon Lewis 197 acres of land in Fincastle County lying on the west side of New River agreeable to an Order of Council of the 16th Dec, 1773 & being part of the Loyal Land Company's Grant. Beginning at a red oak & two Hiccory Saplings on a hillside by a Path corner to Jonathan Osborn & with a line of his land. S 160 poles to two Hiccories on the bank of the New River........& up the meander thereof..........114 poles.........to a large white oak on the river bank by the ........mouth of a Gully thence leaving the River N 85 E80.......to two white oaks & two white oak saplings N7 E80......to two white oaks and a Hiccory on a hillside..........between two paths.......S41 E77 poles to the beginning. 16 Dec 1774 [signed] Robert Preston apptee Wm Preston The other surveys were for Ephraim Osborn 260 acres on Saddle Creek branch of New River;--170 acres for Stephen Osborn;-----132 acres for Jonathan Osborn, West side of New River; 250 acres to John Hash next to Briddle Creek and adjoining Gideon Lewis.
