High County Heritage Festival! Greetings folks! I would like to take the opportunity to invite you to the High County Heritage Festival, May 5, 2001. The event will be held on the grounds of the Watauga Campus of Caldwell Community College in Boone, NC. This event will feature local storytellers, musicians, traditional crafts and food. The Watauga County Genealogical Society will be on hand, along with the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The 58th North Carolina Troops will be taking part, providing hands-on learning concerning the Civil War in the mountains. Local authors doing talks and book signings include Ralph Lentz _W.R. Trivett, Appalachian Pictureman: Photographs of a Bygone Time_; Matt Bumgarder _Kirk's Raiders_; and Johnny Graybeal _Along the ET&WNC Volume I_, just to name a few. Michael Hardy, president of the 58th North Carolina Troops Preservation Society, will be speaking on activities in the area during the Civil War. Storytellers coming include: Diane Hackworth, Tammy Hicks, and several elderly members of the community who will reminisce about their lives here in the mountains. This event is free and open to the public. The festival will open at 10:00 am, and conclude at 5:00 pm.
