    1. [NCASHE] Hansons in Ashe county NC
    2. Darla
    3. Hello Ashe county! I am new to the list and am trying to find the parents of my ggggrandmother, Elizabeth Hanson Melton. She was born 1799 in NC and I believe that she is somehow related to the Hanson or Henson family that moved from Botetourt VA to Ashe county NC. John Hanson was married to Mary Magdelena Wall and they ended up in Monroe county IN. He died shortly after he got there but they had a daughter named Elizabeth b. 1799 in Ashe NC. She married John May and moved to Shelbyville IL My Elizabeth Hanson married Nathan Melton b. 1785 in VA and after having a son in Pulaski county KY in 1818 moved to Lawrence county IN which is just south of Monroe. I think that she is the daughter if James or William the brothers of John. Sorry this is so wordy. I just hope I get some news. Thank you, Darla Darla, Leander TX. 2. Underground Panther
    3. Hi I joined the list wanting to find out about the Pettys, the Spencers and The Osborne /Sizemores. I am Jill Spencer My mom's maiden name is is Marion Estelle Petty. my Gandfather was Demsey Petty,Grandma was Ruth Petty.Of the "PettyHill" in Galax Va. My great grandma was Catherine Petty(was Sizemore)she was married to John Petty..my great grandfather..They had applied for the miller roll I think in 1908.I dunno if they got on it or not.The even bigger mystery lies with my father . He was Reeves Issac Spencer, his folks are from around Ashe county too, like the Grassy Creek area. He had some brothers one was was named John.My father had Cherokee descent too as well as my mother's hers is just further back. I am wondering about The Cherokee past, and what my father may have had in it,he looks very indian.and his family is/was very uptight about it. Most of my father's past is a mystery. I think I may be eligible for tribal status. Any help or knowlege you have would be deeply appreciated. Thanks Underground Panther. :)

    1. Re: [NCASHE] Taylor/Roark
    2. This isn't exactly what you want; but it might be part of that line. Sarah Jane Taylor (9th generation from John Sapp) b 8/23/1869; d 6/2/1922; m Enoch Roark 12/23/1895 in Ashe co. He was b 10/1859. I have the names Sapp,Elliott, Farmer, all lived sometime in Ashe co, NC. In another family tree of mine are the names Fann, Edens, Midkiff/Metcalf, Burrell, Stoker, Utter, Bratton, Forth. In the Elliott, Farmer, Fann, and Edens familytrees, I find the name of FOSTER weaving through many generations. The Above Sarah and Enoch may be in a similar situation. I hope this helps. beebonnie1@aol.com

    1. [NCASHE] Larkin SHEPHERD & Jordan ASHLEY
    2. Rita Ashley Fishman
    3. Can anyone help me figure out if there is a relationship between these 2 families? Larkin b. 1794 m. Alley IRWIN/ERWIN has several children, of note: Jordan Ashley, Franklin,Mary and Martha (twins). My elusive ancestor, Rev. Jordan & Barbara ASHLEY (who is about 5 years younger than Larkin) named their children: Larkin Shepherd, Franklin, and Mary and Martha (twins). I have not found a connection between these 2 families, other than they were at the same place (Ashe Co) at the same time and one of Larkin's uncles married an ASHLEY (that I don't know is related to Jordan). Why did they name sons after each other? Are they related or maybe just good "buds"? There has to be something to this, but, what it is, I am at a loss. Can someone offer some connection? I did some searching today and the only thing I found was that both families were Baptist. I also understand it was not unusual for a couple to name their children after their preacher, but, then why did Jordan do the same? Any help is appreciated. 2. Hi Rita, Here is a description of a piece of land that mentions my g-grandfather Tobias Woody. It has Larkin Shepard in it too, Tobias' first wife had a child named Jordan Ashley Miller, when they married. So that is very interesting. What else do you know about Larkin Shepard? Carolyn -Ashe County, NC--District no. 43 boundry: Beginning on the point of the ridge north of Larkin Shepherds, running a northwest course to the top of the Rich Nob, then an east course to Tobias Wooddy's thence to the top of the Blue Ridge, thence east along the mountain to the dividing line between Reddy's river and Mulberry, thence south with said ridge to the line of Dist. 44, thence to the beginning.--
