    3. Ruby, the clerk of court has them if you can find them, they are piled at random in the vault with bags and bags of old record piled on top of them with no room to get at them, when they move to their new court house we should have better access to them. No word yet as to when the move takes place, it was suppose to have been in April of this year. 3. Does anyone know if Ashe co has old voting records anywhere? While in Ashe for a reunion I went to the Library-which it is posted on their site they have voting records, and they don't have them. I also called the voting office and theirs only goes back to 1968. Thanks Ruby __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get Yahoo! 3. Hi Paul, I read your bio and thought it was pretty neat. I seems that most people are up-tight about themselves and their living family which makes their family tree seem rather cold and dry. I guess I will have to write my own bio to let people know who I am and where I come from. I started writing, and writing, and writing ......... maybe I had better edit my Bio before sending it out. When and if I get it finished, I'll send you a copy. Anyway, I enjoyed yours and I hope it starts a trend. 2. Hi Earl, I could not find any connections that would make us cousins. boo hoo I thank you for all the info. I used some of it to fill in a few blanks. I will keep the data in my Elliott. I do have abt 150 of your ancestors in my computer, but most of it you already have. However, I can send you an attachment with those 150 individuals in it. The 2nd wife of Fred Elliott is Jewel Ham. Jewel is my 2nd cousin. I have visited them about 7 times in the past 15 years. They live on Rich Hill in Ashe Co. I have a prepared Bio, which I will include here. Good luck on your quest. Paul BIO OF PAUL J. PHIPPS I was born 22 Nov. 1919 in Shady Valley, Johnson Co., TN. I’m getting so old, it is hard to have a short biography, but here goes. My parents were Quincy Ahart & Margaret Jane (Bowling) Phipps. My mother was b. 1898 in Bristol, VA & my dad was b. 1894 in Lansing, Ashe Co., NC. Both are deceased, and are buried in Seattle, WA. I have one younger brother, Edga r William Phipps, who was born and lives in Seattle. My dad was in WWl, and when he came home from Europe, he realized there was more than Lansing, NC. He went job hunting and found one in Seattle. I was about 2 months old, when we left Shady Valley for Seattle by train. I lived in and around Seattle all my life, except for 4 plus years in the Army in WWll. The War ended, while I was still in basic training. I landed in Japan in October 1945. I first became subconsciously involved in Genealogy, when I saw the TV series, Roots. My comment was, “I don’t know, where I came from either”. Then a niece, who had become a Mormon, asked me in 1985 about our ancestry. I couldn’t give her hardly anything. I knew both of my grandfather’s names, and that was it. I had never knowingly met even a cousin. Well, my niece not knowing any better, wrote a letter to the Bristol, TN Post Office, asking them if they would put her in contact with anyone living in the area named Bowling, my mother’s maiden name. Lo-and-behold they did. My niece received a letter from an Ida Mae Boling. It turns out that Ida’s father was my mother’s brother, so Ida and I are first cousins. I thought that was pretty neat, so I asked my niece to ask Ida if there was someone I could write to. I received the name, Curtis Bentley, who lived in Shady Valley, TN, where I was born. Curtis answered my letter, then there were the phone calls, and the next thing I knew I was on an airplane going to Shady Valley. Curtis’ mother and mine were sisters, so we were first cousins. I was surprised to find that there were 3 aunts and 1 uncle on my dad’s side that were still alive. I met the 3 aunts, but never saw the uncle, as he didn’t live near. One day in Bristol, TN, I met 8 first cousins and their mother in one house. Their mother was an aunt, but by marriage. When I got back from that trip, I was a hooked genealogist, and had even learned to spell the word. In 1989, I bought a computer. My handwriting was so bad, that even I couldn’t read it. People then started answering my letters, and I was really on my way. I am on my 4th computer and have over 37,500 people entombed there. I may not be a great genealogist, but I am an avid one. END

    3. Okay, If you're coming from Boone, it's easier to go through Mountain City than to loop back through WJ. So, from Boone, take 321/421 North to Mountain City. When you get to Mountain City, the first stop light you come to will be Shoun's crossing. Turn right. Follow that road until you come to the NC state line which will be at the top of a hill. You'll go down that hill just a little ways and you'll see a road on the left called Flatwoods Rd. Turn there and follow that road all the way to the end where it will turn into a dirt road (Old Burnt Schoolhouse Rd). Follow that dirt road all the way to the end and you'll come to a cemetery and that's the one I've mentioned. There might be another cemetery on that road but it's been a while since I've been back there. It kinda gets a little creepy back there b/c it's so far back but the cemetery is/used to be well-kept. Now, coming from West Jefferson, take 88/194 towards Warrensville. Turn right at Warrensville (194) to Lansing. Go through the stoplight at Lansing and make the first left (Little Horse Creek). Take the second left (Joe Hampton Rd) and follow that to the end. Turn left on Little Horse Creek (I know, it's sounds like a weird way to take but trust me, it's faster to cut off part of that windy road). That road will turn into Coy Ham Rd. and will turn into a dirt road at a fork. John Alley road will be to the left and Coy Ham road will be to the right. Stay on Coy Ham Rd. Take the first left (Fairview Church Road). Follow that until you come to a dirt road on the right called Rock Fence Rd. Follow that road to the end. Old Burnt Schoolhouse Rd. will be on the right and, like above, follow it to the end. John, I think you're right that it is near a Primitive Church but it's been a couple of years since I've been back there. I didn't really look for Lewis's b/c I was looking at my Eldreths (Floyd and Abbie). Let me know if I can help further or if these directions aren't clear enough. From WJ it should take about 45 minutes (b/c of the windy roads and the dirt roads) and from Boone, I would estimate about an hour. Good luck, Shana ----Original Message----- From: John O Graybeal <graybeal@esn.net> To: Shana Anderson <amhmgr@SkyBest.Com> Date: Wednesday, July 12, 2000 8:52 PM Subject: Re: [NCASHE] Burnt Hill Cemetery Shana, That sounds like the cemetery that a number of Lewises are buried in. I thought it was called the Lewis cemetery. Is there a Primitive Baptist church nearby. I have looked for this road before and wondered if there was a way from the NC side. John O.

    3. hi there...I'm new to this list and was wondering if someone could help me. I am trying to locate information on Ned Stanley Weaver. I have found a possible match.. (possible is the key word Ü) Could someone lookup the obit on Ned Weaver who died in Ashe County in 1979? The Ned Weaver I am looking for died building the bridge? I think he was born in OK around 1910-1919 era..He married Lois Fatheree and had three children (two his) Orville, Thomas, and Delores. His social Security number if that helps is: 246-05-3486 I would order the SS5 file, but I want to be sure if it is him or not...there are only 4 Ned Weavers in the SSindex..and to make matters worse, I find that he may have changed his name from Ned Morgan...but we'll work on that at a later date. thanking you in advance, applenooker

    3. Hi, carolyn, I checked my Ashe county Cemetery books for Burnt Hill Cemetery and found nothing. It may have another name such as a church or if it is a small cemetery, it could be listed as a family cemetery. Of the approximate 1000 cemeteries listed most are small, 5 or 10 graves. If you have a name, I could check for surnames. Ralph Carolinacf@aol.com wrote: > > Hi, > Does anyone know where Burnt Hill Cemetery, near Peek, Ashe Co. NC is? What > city is that near?
