According to the 1984 edition of The Heritage of Ashe COunty, the Post Office was switched to Warrensville in 1916, prior to 1888, it was Mouth of Buffalo. According to a section of "Rambling through Ashe," a Dr. Wilcox lived "at Dresen on the river near Warrensville." (p 83) It must not have been too far from Dresden to Berlin, whose name was changed to Bina in 1918. For practical purposes, Dresden doesn't exist anymore.
What is the current name of the town of Dresden in Ashe Co. NC? I presume that the town changed its name around the time of WWI.
Joyce, I'm looking again at my pc program. I see a James Blevins married to Margaret Ward (no dates for this) and coming forward to Wells Blevins then on to Capt James Blevins. Is this the same line? My great Uncle Wm Beaman marr the dau of Sarah Mandaville Blevins This information was sent to me by Ron Blevins last winter. Do you have this? Section 11 Blevins Families of the South Ashe Co NC Cluster. I have Chapter 7 - Wells Blevins Sr. family. I'm related thru marriages and such into this line too/ or is this truly the same line? Oh dear shouldn't have asked any more questions until I get online and look at what you sent from Rootsweb. If you'd like me to send you this I can, it's wonderful to have for reference. Hi, another Blevins in the area I am from Salem, Virginia. Don't know if your Alfred Blevins and David Jesse Blevins are part of our family from Ashe County or not. Have several Alfred's in the family but no trace forward on them only back to James Blevins born in 1740 in England married to Elizabeth Ward and then to Montgomery County, Va. and Ashe County, NC. Hi all I was just lookin through the 1870 Ashe Co. Fed. Census and it is remarkable how many middle aged men were missing. I saw many many females as head of households in this census. What a toll the war must have taken on the men of Ashe Co. Does anyone know the death figures for Ashe Co.? Hi Warren, Thanks for the information on Louisa Grogan and Noah Fox. I do not have anything on Louisa except for her birth date. That helps a lot on my Grogan file. I don't know anythig about the Fox family but there were a lot of Fox's in the Grandfather Mountain area in the 1800's and later. Hannah and Rhoda Younce were daughters of Solomon Younce (1798-1879) and Sarah Rollen/Rowland (1802-1890). Hannah was my g-grandmother. Do you have their families? If not I can send what I have on them. I do not have any information on the other children of Henry & Susan - Caroline, Isaiah, James T.and Lewis. You are a wealth of information Warren for which I am so greateful. Thanks again. Regards Rebecca p.s. My sister Marjorie and I were in Western NC in June but did not get to the Ashe County Library. Too many 'Cuzzin' reunions. One of which was the Grogan-Bailiff 'Cuzzins'. Always such a joy to get back to the mountains from whence our parents and ancestors came!! Thank you for the info. It filled in spaces that I needed, but opened up more questions for me. I am going to Sedro Woolley WA in August to a special 50th ann celebration. While there, I will visit the sons of Helen Elliott, Flossie, Elliott, and Matie Mae Elliott Miller. Helen m Richard Young; Flossie m Fred Boede; and Mae m George Miller from Apple Grove, NC. Elizabeth (oldest dau of Rufus) m 2 Claude Miller,; who was the bro of George. Her children are possibly still in SW also. The Elva info is incorrect on the list. She was married to John Logan Bratton; had 3 sons, Benjamin, Joseph Douglas, and Jack Albert. All are dead. I was m to Jack in 1950.If you want more on the lines of Elva, let me know. I have many papers and info that Elva left abt the family including address books. Thanks again beebonnie1@aol.com
