John O., The information that follows is from the VANOVER FAMILY by Greg Vanover 3-Cornelius Vanover #1 Marie Buys #2 Tiney 4-Cornelius Vanover #1 unk #2 Abbigail Mattox 5-Cornelius Vanover was born 1760-1765, in Sussex County, New Jersey. He probably married in western North Carolina. He married Abby Easterd who who was born 1760-1770. She is said to have been Cherokee. Several Eastern Cherokee Applications of Catherine Vanover) Perry's descendants state that Abby Easterd was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian. Any ideas on how or where to check, I have looked in my history room at the books of the Eastern Cherokee Applications, is there more information on microfilm then appears in these books ? I checked all the Perrys in the books. I have really enjoyed the VANOVER FAMILY by Greg, has a lot of reseach and some wonderful pictures. Louise Vanover Vore
Hi does anyone know of a book that was wrote by --Roark, telling about the lives of Ashe Co. people? I just talked to a distant cousin and she said at one time she had read a book telling about my Ggrandfather Wm "Emmitt" Badger)buying wood when money was really tight and he gave $5 for it. She lives in Ashe Co. but could not remember who had written the book other than their last name was Roark. She also had read(it could have been another book)where my GGgrandfather's(William H. Badger) dad was also a mortician. Thanks Ruby __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - Free email you can access from anywhere! http://mail.yahoo.com/

Louise Looks like there was a Henry R. VANOVER who was either a JP or a minister in Ashe Co. during the Mid 1800s... I've come across the name several times as having performed marriages there at that time frame. I also found a reference that Cornelius VANOVER married Abby EASTERD on 20 January 1778, and it says that his father's name was also Cornelius. It does give his birth place as being Somerset Co. NJ. (Source Gene Pool Individual Records). I was also able to fill in the record for William VANOVER for you down below. From: Documents Relating to the Colonial History of the State of New Jersey Vol22 pg 239 Mattox, Abigail, and Cornelius Vanover, Hardwick Co. NJ 1778 Jan. 20 Finally, in 1777 the estate of one Henry VanOver was inventoried in NJ. VanOver, Henry, 252S. B. 16, p. 509. Int. 1777. Inv. 1777. Translated....B= Bergen Co., page 509 he died Intestate and his estate was inventoried the same year. the #16 gives the range of years... 1772 - 1779 (Source:Carter, David S. State of New Jersey Index of Wills, Inventories, Etc.1913) I'me sure you already have all of this...but I hope some of it helps. Oh...I not related nor do I have the names in my line...just thought I'd help if I could with some look ups for ya. I am searching for Jasper David Dunn's parents, Jasper was born 1861 Jefferson, Ashe Co., NC. He married (ca 1876) Pheby Jane Rose, daughter of Wyatt & Hesparan Wood Rose. Jasper and Pheby was in the 1880 Ashe Co. Census. His children General Wyatt b. 1877, John William b. 1878, Mary, Loky, Ida, Thomas, David.
I am also very interested in the WEBB and HARMON connections. HARMON was the birth surname of Thomas MARLOW, Sr.'s first mother-in-law. Thomas MARLOW, Sr. married Elizabeth WARD on November 3, 1824 in Rhea County, Tennessee. A Reuben MARLOW, whom I feel was Thomas' brother, married Susan C. WARD on December 13,1824 in Rhea County. Susan was Elizabeth's sister. They were daughters of Benjamin WARD, Jr. and Catherine HARMON. Catherine was a daughter of Cutliff HARMON (Gottlieff HERRMAN) and Susan FOUTS (originally PFAUTZ, but also spelled FOUTZ). Benjamin WARD, Sr. had a daughter named Celia who also married a MARLOW. Another of Benjamin , Sr.'s daughters, Elizabeth Susan WARD, married John C. WEBB. Benjamin WARD, Sr. was married to Selah/Celah DUKE. I have some information on the FOUTS/PFAUTZ and Harmon/HERRMANN lines, but I could always use more, as well as the WARD and MARLOW lines. I'm just curious whether the WEBB I mentioned is connected at all to your ancestry, as well as the HARMON line. If anyone can find the given name of the MARLOW whom Celia WARD married, this would be a great link in our chain. Remember, Celia was the daughter of Benjamin WARD, Sr., father of the Benjamin WARD who moved from Ashe County, NC (where I live) to Rhea County and Campbell County, Tennessee (I was born in Lake City in Anderson County). Please reply if you can solve any part of this riddle. Another thing: Thomas MARLOW, Sr. and his second wife, Profanis WHITE, named a son Paul Harmon MARLOW. Another question is why Thomas would name a wife from his second wife a name which is connected to his first wife? Maybe it was out of respect--or maybe these MARLOWs are tied into the WARD and HARMON lines more than we realize. Some of this family was in the Whitley County area of Kentucky, also. If you know of this connection or any connection to the people named above, please reply. Some of this family lived in Randolph County, Rowan County, and Iredell County, North Carolina as well as in Ashe County and Watauga County. Ima J. I'm sorry but a message was sent regarding this family, starting with Christian Miller and Katie Uzrey. I was about to print it when I accidently deleted it instead. Would you please repost the message. It had to do with Stephen, one of their sons. Also, I'm especially interested in Katie and Christian. Does anyone have anything on their ancestors?
