Sorry folks, I just went back and looked at what I have already. I made an error when I sent the previous message. It isn't Morris that I have as should be the father of my Hiram, it is Zachariah. A certified genealogist did some searching looking for proof of the father of Morris Cox Baker. I have a copy of her work. I have said all along that my Hiram is a son Zachariah. All her findings showed is that Zachariah and Sally had an unnamed son, she thought is was either Hiram or Jonathan. I need to find proof that it was Hiram. Still trying to piece together the TESTERMAN line I as researching. Maybe since this is a new year, someone new on the list can help. I have a Coller TESTERMAN who is from Ashe county and buried in Ashe County. This granddaughter was supposed to take my daughter to the cemetery where he is buried, but the weather didn't permit. There is a Coller Green TESTERMAN from Ashe County who married a Cordelia ROBERTS. There is a Coller TESTERMAN buried in the James ROBERTS family cemetery in Ashe County. The Coller I am looking for is said to have married a Sarah or Sally [possibly PARSONS]. He had a daughter named Nellie or Nella Ethel. She was born August of 1906 and died April 1941. She and her husband are buried in the Scott-Blevins Cemetery. Her husband was John Alexander HARRIS [1877-1948]. Nellie and John had, I believe, 14 children. Here the plot thickens! The children all went by the last name of HARRIS. However, at least one of her sons has the name BLEVINS on his birth certificate. There is a Coller TESTERMAN on the 1920 Ashe county census, but he is married to a Cordelia [ROBERTS] and has a 5-year-old daughter. I am really getting closer and closer to a padded cell trying to figure out this family. Is anyone out there connected in anyway with this family or can shed any kind of light, no matter how tiny, on this Coller TESTERMAN mystery for me? For those who are interested and would like to update your records I have information regarding the burial site of my great grandparents Henry Millard Lewis and Delphia L. Cornett and that of my great, great grandmother Susanna Cox. Henry and Delphia moved from Ashe County with their eight children to Lincoln County in 1921. A ninth child, Henry Earl Lewis passed away in 1909 (b. 13 July 1902, d. 24 Dec 1909, bd. Price/Roark Cem., N. Frk Twp. Ashe Co. NC). Apparently Delphia's mother, Sussana Cox (d/o Aries Cox and unknown, and the wife of George Washington Cornett) traveled with Henry and Delphia to Lincoln Co. All three (Henry, Delphia and Sussana) are buried at the site of the old Russels Chapel Methodist Church in Lincoln Co. on Reepsville Road (State Hwy 1113). There is a community center there now. Hi, Carol, As usual, I'm behind with my e-mail. I just saw your post to the Ashe County E-mail List, and although I don't have any specific information for you, I wonder if you can give me a little information, on two surnames: HARRIS and PARSONS. The HARRIS family of my interest settled in Buncombe Co, NC, and had relatives in Rutherford and possibly Wilkes and Ashe counties. Do you think "Nellie" HARRIS connects in any way to these HARRISES? PARSON is not connected to my research, but may be an important point of reference. Paton/Peyton (pronounced Payton) PARSONS, a Civil War veteran, lived just south of Ashe County, in the White Oak Community of Wilkes County. This is north of Union Twp, just before you start up the mountain to Ashe County. He had a son called By/Bye PARSONS, who lived nearby, whose might have been "Bynum," but I don't know that. Does your HARRIS family connect to the Buncombe County HARRISES? Do you have any knowledge of the PARSONS family mentioned above? I look forward to hearing from you. Marj. Bonnie, According to my records a Henderson Lewis (born about 1854 in Ashe County) was the son of Gideon "Rock Creek" Lewis (1810-1880). "Rock Creek" was a nephew to Capt. Gideon Lewis (1765-1842) and the son of Issac Jacob Lewis (1773-1843). "Rock Creek" is my 3rd great grandfather, Issac Jacob Lewis was my 4th great grandfather. "Rock Creek" is buried at Three Forks Baptist Church (Tucker Cemetery) in Ashe County. Henderson Lewis was married to Nancy Vanover and had a son named Tilson A. (probably Arthur Tilson) and a daughter named Mary Ordelia (probably Cordelia). Mary Ordelia (Cordelia) was married to Luke Osborn. There is also a M.R. Lewis under Henderson which must be Minnie Rosethia. Hope this helps, William D. Lewis, MS * bill.lewis@intervet.com
Bill, I believe my ggrandfather was a son of Capt. Lewis. His name was Henderson Lewis. He had a daughter named Cordelia Lewis (nicknamed Dicie)one named Minnie Rosethia (my grandmother)1875-1945. Henderson also had a son , Arthur Tilson Lewis I can't verify Gideon's birth date, but I'm working on it. I'm sure there were other children besides Henderson, but right now that's part of what I'm researching. I hope I don't have the wrong Gideon. I've found 3 or 4. Hope I've got the right line. Bonnie Jo (daughter of Henderson Clinton Osborne, Minnie's son)
Gideon Lewis, Jr. is my husband's 4th g uncle. Gideon, Sr. and Nancy Osborne's daughter, Jane Lewis, married Lt. Isaac Weaver, Jr. who is my husband's ggg grandfather. I don't have any information on Gideon, Jr.'s children, but do have more information on Jane Lewis and Isaac Weaver. I show Gideon Jr.'s birth in 1765 and death in 1842. Sarah's birth in 1785 and death in 1825 and primary residence in Ashe Co., NC. They were married about 1805. Bill and Patty Davis Galax, Virginia
I am looking for information regarding the children of Capt. Gideon Lewis (brother to my 4th great grandfather Issac Lewis). Capt. Gideon was the son of Gideon Lewis, Sr. and Nancy Osborne, was married to Sarah Jones and was born about 1765. If possible I also need a verification for Gideon Sr.'s birth. I had this as 1723 in Hanover County Virginia but there is apparently some dispute to this as some are saying it was around 1730-36 in Wales. If anyone has some verification regarding Gideon Sr.'s birth that too would be greatly appreciated. Sincere regards, William D. Lewis, MS * bill.lewis@intervet.com
