    1. [NCASHE-L] HAMPTON family 1789 to 1827
    2. Hi I have been told by someone who is supposed to have done some research on this that my branch of the Hampton family has roots in Ashe and Wilkes county. I have been trying to find the birth place and family of William P Hampton born Aug 8 1789. Some records give the state of his birth as North Carolina and some as Tennessee. I was told that the part of North Carolina he was born in became Tennessee right around the time he was born. William married a woman named Malinda (maiden name unknown) and the two of them had seven children together, John , James, William Irwin, Lemira, Elizabeth, Mary Adeline, and Matilda. William and his family left Tennessee/North Carolina sometime around 1825 to 1827 for McLean County Illinois. They stayed there about ten years before moving on to what is now Dade County Missouri. One history book of McLean Co lists William as having a connnection to Wade Hampton, but it doesn't say which Wade Hampton ( I've discovered there were dozens of them in the 1800's). Is anyone else researching this family or have any clues about which branch of the Hamptons William belongs too? Will share all information that I have Thanks for your time Jaime [email protected] Searching for HAMPTON RUSSELL LIEVESAY

    1. Re: [NCASHE-L] Ahse Co Look-up
    2. Bob, I signed onto Jeff pages. He listed Jacob King on the list because he was of age to be in the civil war. Several things could have happened. He could have gone back to Ill to join a Federal Unit, He could have gone into TN to join a Federal Unit. OR he could have been a Federalist sympathizer in the middle of a Rebel County and could have been killed. The civil war has been glossed over somewhat. It was a terrible war for the people. It was a terrible war for people trying not to take sides. People were killed, beaten, had houses destroyed, lost all of their pertsonal property. People had to hide their livestock when they realized soldiers(from eiother side) were around because they would be stolen. Food was stolen, animals slaughtered for food. It was especially difficult in East Tn because the state declared itself Confederate, but the East Tennesseans by far were Union. Ashe County was on the border of Tn, very few owned slaves, so it probably had some men that joined the Union side. Doyle King
