    1. [NCALAMAN] LONG-WALKER-ENOCH NC>OHIO
    2. HI: I'm stymied in my research into NATHANIEL LONG (WE've found his father) and his wife LUCRETIA EVANS (FATHER IS ROBERT EVANS, MOTHER UNKNOWN) of Alamance Co., NC. Nathaniel Long, an African-American, married Lucretia, said to be Cherokee, in 1874. Their son EDWARD NATHANIEL, nicknamed PINK, had fought with a white man, so Nathaniel sent him to Ohio to get him away from trouble. The family followed later with Nathaniel, Lucretia and their children CORA, ROSA, ALEXANDER, DAVID, ROBERT, MARY JULIA and SADIE to Clark County, Ohio. Family legend says they stopped in Clifton Forge, VA, for several months before getting to Ohio but I can't find them in the census. Son Alexander married MINNIE VIOLA WALKER, whose parents, ISSAC WALKER and SARAH ENOCH, were also from Alamance Co. Sarah's parents, BEDFORD and TENNER ENOCH, were from Alamance Co. Sarah moved to Ohio and Tenner later moved there to live with her daughter. Both are buried in Clark County, Ohio. I need to move to the next step with these families. What is the origin of their surnames? Any hints on researching African-Americans and Cherokees in Alamance County? All help appreciated!
