In 1888 land was given by Thomas M. and Louise HOLT for a building on the hill near the old meeting house. Holt's Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church obtained land in 1894 for a separate church building south of the cemetery. The Rev C.W. HUNT was the first to serve that church. In 1939 the branches of the national Methodist Church merged to become the Methodist Church. The Methodist Protestant Church property became the site of the unified church, and the Holt's Chapel property was used for several years as the children's department of the Sunday School. In 1922 a fire destroyed the old church building, and a year later the present brick structure was erected. The ladies of the church sold chicken salad sandwiches at the nearby mills in order to raise funds for the building. Later the church built a parsonage, added an educational wing and then built a multi-purpose structure as a gym and fellowship hall. Surnames of early members: ANDREWS, KECK, MODLIN, ELLINGTON, SMALL, RAY, CATES, BLACKMON, BROWNING, BRINCEFIELD, PERRY, RICE, McCRACKEN, TEW, BAKER, ALVIS, MONTGOMERY, FULCHER, THOMPSON, WOODS, FREELAND, TROLLINGER, RONEY and HOLT. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bellvue Baptist Church 1885 One of the oldest churches in the area is on Bason Road. In 1885 the land for the church was given by Mr SWETSON, a white man, to Hill TROLLINGER a former slave. At first nine families met in a tent, but by 1887 they had raised enough money to build a small wooden church. It is named Piney Grove Church on certain maps dated 1890 and later it was called Locus Grove Church. Today the church has a brick facade and has been enlarged. Present name, Bellvue Baptist Church.
