Alexander Wilson High School, opened in 1923 and named for the noted educator who had established Melville Academy about 1851, near the present Alexander Wilson School. Altamahaw-Ossipee High School, located on Highway #87 north of Burlington between the mill villages of Altamahaw and Ossipee.. This school was formed in 1922 when the county schools were consolidaed from Stony Creek, Iseley's, Maywood, Oakwood, Altamahaw and Ossipee.
