Posted on: Alamance County, NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/NC/Alamance/638 Surname: THOMAS, COSTNER, CORTNER ------------------------- Seeking information on the family and origins of Benjamin THOMAS b. abt. 1770, poss. in NC, m. 22 Jul 1795 in Orange Co. NC to Margaret COSTNER or CORTNER. Their bondman was John THOMAS. Margaret appears to be the dau. of David CORTNER, who was enum. in Orange Co. in 1800. Benjamin may be the son of Abraham THOMAS, who lived on Stinking Quarter Creek near two other CORTNER households. Abraham appears on tax lists from 1779 to 1794 in St. Asaph's district, which corresponds to Coble township in present-day Alamance Co. However, several other THOMAS men were in Orange Co. early enough to be the father of a son b. 1770, including Edward, Jacob, James, Jesse, Richard, and William THOMAS. I would be grateful for information or leads on any of these individuals.
