The 1850 census of Alamance County, North District, lists a Sarah HUGHES age 22 and Piety Adams age 20. (census page 52) Next door to them is Jeremiah HUGHES age 28, Hariet HUGHES age 38, and two children, James and Cornelia. Does anyone know who these people are? A few pages further in the census is Doctin DICKEY, his wife Eliza (maiden name HUGHES), two of their children, and a Thomas HUGHES age 18. Is there a connection between Eliza HUGHES DICKEY (and what is probably a brother Thomas HUGHES) and the other HUGHES's a few pages back? My g-g-g-grandfather George Washington HUGHES married Sarah PASCAL September 1840 in Orange County, what is now Alamance. I have no idea who his parents are and have been searching for years. The bondsman for their marriage bond dated October 1839 were Samuel ADAMS and Lewis B. HOLT. Hence I was wondering about the possible HUGHES/ADAMS connection. Any information is greatly appreciated.
