    3. Hi: It's me again. Still researching my brick wall: my GGGGrandfather Jesse Allred 1783-1844 who was illegitimate. After 6 years of searching, I still don't have a clue about who his parents were. What has been documented about him is: He bought his first tract of land in 1808. This land was located in north east Randolph County along today's Randolph Church Road. Some family members still live on this original land. Jesse's house was located about 300 yards from the Peter Freeman house. It was very unusual for two houses to be located so close to each other in the early 1800's. I have found no family relationship between the Freemans and Jesse so far although I have been told that several of Jesse's children were actually born in the Freeman house and one of Jesse's grandchildren is listed as living with the Freemans on a census record. He married Alsey York (1790-1870's) and they had 11 children. Alsey was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church until she was "kicked out for not attending a foot washing ceremony" in the 1830's. He is buried at Shiloh United Methodist Church. The grave next to his is marked only by a large rock, so there is no way of knowing if Alsey is buried with him. I have not found her grave anywhere else, so she is probably buried with him, but no way to document this. Jesse told his children and grandchildren that he "didn't have any parents" and that he was "found out in the woods on a tree stump". The term "Woods Baby" is collocial and was used frequently to describe illegitimate children prior to the 1940's. I've looked high and low and can't figure out who his parents might have been. Currently I am slowly and methodically reseaching every member of the Allred family living in Randolph County (male and female) who was "of child bearing years" in 1783. I'm hoping that through a process of elimination, I will be able to narrow down the possible suspects and eventually figure out who his mother or father might have been. Course, bottom line is that I can't prove Jesse was born in Randolph County - I'm just assuming he was since he lived there and there were so many Allreds there during that time period. But, I have to keep my mind open to the fact that he may not have been born there. If you have any information that will help - Please Contact Me!! Thanks Linda Allred Cooper lacooper@mindspring.com
