    1. [NCALAMAN] Allred
    2. Linda Cooper
    3. The Allred family first shows up in North Carolina in 1755, receiving land grants and settling on land in old Orange County, now known as Randolph County. By the 1790's, members of this family were spreading out all over North Carolina and the surrounding states. The East Coast Allreds are a Randolph County, NC based branch of the Allred Family Organization. www.allredfamily.org We meet several times each year to compare notes on our Allred family history and to plan various genealogy related trips. Here's a listing of events planned for this year: We are planning a trip to Utah to attend the Allred Family Reunion on June 24th. After the reunion, we'll spend a few days in SW Utah for some sight-seeing in and around some of the most beautiful canyons in the world. We'll leave from RDU June 23 and return June 29. Plan now to attend the Allred Family Reunion in Randolph County!! This reunion will be held at Grays Chapel School September 9 & 10. Saturday, September 9th, the reunion will begin at 8am with festivities scheduled all day long. Covered dish/pot luck lunch at 12 noon. Sunday, September 10th, we take everyone on a tour of documented Allred sites in Randolph County. Last year around 400 attended. This year we're expecting over 600 Allreds to attend!! Don't miss the fun! Plans for the 2000 Week of Allred trip are underway. Dates are November 25 - December 2. This year we will be visiting Pickens County, Georgia where Elias, son of Thomas, settled in the early 1800's. The tentative schedule is to spend the first couple of days in Randolph County repairing tombstones. Then we'll go to Asheville for a visit to Biltmore House before traveling to Georgia for the remainder of our trip. Some "Georgia Allreds" are helping plan a mini-reunion to take place while we're there. For more information on the East Coast Allreds or any of the events mentioned above, please let me know. Everyone interested in Allred family history is invited to join in on the fun. Linda Allred Cooper (919) 542-3077 P.O. Box 415 Pittsboro, NC 27312 lacooper@mindspring.com

    1. [NCALAMAN] Alamance County NCGenWeb...
    2. Edward A. Black, Sr.
    3. I was informed by Elizabeth Harris, the State Coordinator for NCGenWeb that the current County Coordinator [Bobby Touchton, "bjtouchton@aol.com"] for Alamance County, NC, would like to place the Alamance County NCGenWeb site up for adoption. He feels that he lack the time to work on it properly and feels he needs to cut back. Many thanks for your efforts, Bobby. As listowner for the NCALAMAN-l list, I am willing to help out and coordinate the Alamance site for a short term, but because I am coordinator of several counties in several states and admin numerous county lists, I can't take on the Alamance site in the long term. If anyone has an interest in Alamance County and is willing to adopt the Alamance County site, please contact Elizabeth Harris, the NCGenWeb State Coordinator, ["ncgen@mindspring.com"] know of your interest and you will be contacted. Sincerely, Edward, Sr. [listmanager, NCALAMAN-L] --

    3. Hi List, Just to let you know, in case some of you have folks in Chatham Co. I have now put some of the early deeds on the county page. They aren't indexed, but are searchable, by using your "edit" and "find in page" options, in your tool bar. Hope this will help you all. I will get more up as I can get them typed up. Right now, I'm working on the marriage bonds from the microfilm. So many of you have expressed interest in them. Sue http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncchatha/chatham.htm

    1. [NCALAMAN] Lower Stony Creek Survey
    2. Thomas W Davis
    3. Hello - A 1767 Orange County will, prepared by Walter Thetford, refers to the Lower Stony Creek Survey, and bequeathed approximately 400 acres to William Thetford, and son-in-law William Williams. I've been unable to locate information about the Survey, but the property was located on Stony Creek shortly before it flows into the Haw River, specifically between Jordan Creek and Deep Creek. Does any reader have information concerning the Survey, or the Thetford/ Williams families; specifically during the period between the 1750's and 1785? Thanks for any related information. Tom Davis
