    1. [NCALAMAN] Stoners Cemetery
    2. Joyce Harrison
    3. Okay, I am just going to jump in and speak my thoughts. This past weekend myself, and three other cousins along with my ten year old daughter decided to go ancestor and old house hunting in Alamance County. We really enjoyed seeing some of the old home places and hearing memories that one cousin who has lived here for many years remembered until we got to Stoners. I've got to tell you, I was appalled at the sad and unkept state of this cemetery. It was so grown up that we couldn't drive up but half way and walked the rest of the way through weeds and briars knee deep. The cemetery itself is so sad and torn up that there are no words to describe the feeling it left with us. It is in a cow pasture and the cows don't know it is a burial ground. There is NO barrier to keep them off of the graves or from knocking over the headstones. One cousin, has volunteered to help fix it up but has no extra money to do this with. He has the time and the desire to help do something, but can't do it alone. My ten year old just hung her head and asked why no one cared about the graves. I remember about a year ago at one of the Alamance Genealogical Society Meetings that this very subject was brought up and we were told that the money was there to get it fixed up and a stone fence built around it and that the only thing they were waiting for was the man who was going to do the stone work for the fence. Well, this only my opinion, but I think if he was going to do any stone work, he would have already started. Folks, this is one of the oldest cemeteries in this county and the ancestors buried are our forefathers, grandfathers, and grandmothers. They are actually mine and I will gladly do my part to see it preserved, but my question is this. Who has the authority to see that the money that supposedly has been set aside for this project is ever going to be used? If something isn't done REAL soon, there won't be a Stoners Cemetery left for anyone to see. Is there someone out there that can move the "in Charge" folks to act before it is completely destroyed? It would be such a shame for it not to be fixed up. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would love to see this come to be. Thanks for letting me voice my opinion. Joyce Harrison (Direct descendant of Issac Sharp)

    1. [NCALAMAN] Pine Hill Cemetery
    2. Mark Faucette
    3. Louise Overton asked if anyone has ever done a cemetery survey for Pine Hill Cemetery. I'm reasonably sure the answer is no. I wrote to the caretakers of Pine Hill Cemetery a couple of years ago asking for the locations of about over fifty graves of cousins and cousins-in-law. Someone wrote back providing me with *most* of the information, but he also said that even the Pine Hill Cemetery records don't show where many of the older graves are located. Such a survey might be a worthwhile endeavor. Mark Faucette

    1. [NCALAMAN] vital records info
    2. HI: What has been the listmembers' experience in obtaining vital records from Alamance County/the state of North Carolina before 1868? Are the complete records even available for Alamance Co.? My purpose: I would like to confirm the location of some relatives (and whether they died in NC or left the state/just disappeared, which is what family legend says). This would be around 1899 or so. I've checked Cyndi's List and found some info but it's not clear how I can effectively spend that $10 per person for the research. Thanks for any/all info! K.
