I have her born in Sep 1835 - death date unknown. Her parents are thought to be John H. Clapp (1811-?) and Elizabeth Ann McMurrey (1815-?). She is recorded as becoming the wife of Lewis Taylor Teague (1825-1892) on 27 Sep 1853, and possibly residing in NE Chatham Co. This couple is believed to have produced at least 10 children - the 9th being my grandmother, Annie Margaret Teague (1875-1961). Please contact me at my E-mail address if you have anything to confirm, alter, or expand on the referenced families. I will gladly share from my considerable collected materials on the referenced families in exchange. Hello Bill, Have you checked the death certificates in Chatham or Alamance Counties? Your grandmother's death certificate should name her parents, and if you are lucky they place of birth. The death certificates were mandated in 1919; given that your grandmother survived to the age of 86, chances are your greatgrandmother, who would have been 84 in 1919, could also be found there. Hope this gives you some useful advice. Best regards, John Fox Winston Salem, NC

    3. Posted on: Alamance County, NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Alamance/645 Surname: PILES, PYLES ------------------------- Am looking for information on Catherine/Caty PILES, b. c1774 (according to the 1850 census), presumably died sometime in the 1850s. Her daughter Terly (b. c1803) lived with her and had at least two children of her own: John (b. c1836, listed with wife Sallie in 1860 but back in his mother's household in 1870) and Nancy (c1841-1880 unm.). Caty Piles may have been the common-law wife of James BASS, in whose household she was living in 1850 (she was living next door to him or near him in the 1820-30-40 censuses). Was she related to the white Piles family of upper Orange and Alamance? Or to the "colored" Piles family of Caswell? Was Levi Piles who m. 1842 in Wake Co. to Sally Evans her son too? --any information greatly appreciated.

This is my update post. To those of you that aren't aware already, I've completed the orphan records (apprentice/indenture bonds) for Chatham Co., from 1774 to 1800. At least, as far as possible with the film that I have. Some of it is unreadable and until I can get to the archives and see the original, this will have to do. I feel that I have extracted at least 95%, however. My spell checker hasn't worked well, because of the old spelling and abbreviations so, please excuse the probable errors in words. The surnames are correct to the best of my ability to read the film.. This has many names from the surrounding counties of Chatham. http://rootsweb.com/~ncchatha/orphan.htm Happy Hunting.. 3. The register of deeds is located in Graham, NC. I do not know the exact address but it is in Graham. They charge $1.00 for uncertified copies and $5.00 for certified copies. There is no charge to look at the books. They have a very nice place set up for genealogists. Hope this helps. Joyce Harrison

Any idea what the cost might be for this material? I was unable to locate this information on the Alamance County portion of the rootsweb website, but maybe I just didn't look hard enough. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated. 1. [NCALAMAN] THOMAS in Orange (later Alamance) by 1779
    2. Paul B. Phelps
    3. Posted on: Alamance County, NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/NC/Alamance/638 Surname: THOMAS, COSTNER, CORTNER ------------------------- Seeking information on the family and origins of Benjamin THOMAS b. abt. 1770, poss. in NC, m. 22 Jul 1795 in Orange Co. NC to Margaret COSTNER or CORTNER. Their bondman was John THOMAS. Margaret appears to be the dau. of David CORTNER, who was enum. in Orange Co. in 1800. Benjamin may be the son of Abraham THOMAS, who lived on Stinking Quarter Creek near two other CORTNER households. Abraham appears on tax lists from 1779 to 1794 in St. Asaph's district, which corresponds to Coble township in present-day Alamance Co. However, several other THOMAS men were in Orange Co. early enough to be the father of a son b. 1770, including Edward, Jacob, James, Jesse, Richard, and William THOMAS. I would be grateful for information or leads on any of these individuals.
