    1. Inherited Medical Conditions in the Messer lineage
    2. Brenda Messer
    3. Hello Friends and Family I hope that each of you are well. I just wanted to let you know that I have not forgotten you. I have had many things on my agenda for the past 6 weeks and have had to let quite a bit of my mail go unanswered. I have been asked by many people for more information on the CMT and TN since my post about these conditions in September. These conditions are evident in other family groups, but the physician that I am working with has isolated a new gene that has never before been found in any research group in any of these disorders. This gene is evident in the three families that he has been studying for over a year now and also in 3 families who live in Oregon. My husband's grandfather was in a wheelchair with CMT when I first met him in 1965. His younger brother has it very badly [he just had to retire on disability]. There are many cousins that have definitely been identified as having one or both conditions, with one being only nine years of age. So far I have had responses from people far and wide and have found that it is very evident in not only the descendants of the Messer Family who settled in Haywood County, NC, but the Messer Family who settled in Hawkins County, TN and two other family lines that are linked to the mountains of NC. The NC and TN families most likely have a common link, as there were two Christian Messers and one is at least 10 years older than the other. They both were in the same proximities in eastern NC in 1771. I have long thought that they might be cousins or uncle / nephew. I have my Christian's father, but know nothing about his lineage. I often wonder if both families were "hatched" somewhere. Here are some links where you can read about the inherited medical conditions that I am helping the neurologist with. CMT http://www.ninds.nih.gov/health_and_medical/disorders/charcot_doc.htm http://www.charcot-marie-tooth.org/ http://search.iwon.com/commerce/directory.jsp?categoryid=57124&alias=/alias/ --search page http://www.ultranet.com/~smith/CMTnet.html http://chorus.rad.mcw.edu/doc/00288.html http://www.cmtint.org/ http://www.cmtint.org/signs.htm this one shows a typical foot of the CMT patient http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/921392067.html http://www.charcot-marie-tooth.org/whatis.htm http://www.charcot-marie-tooth.org/cmt.htm http://www.charcot-marie-tooth.org/hnpp.htm TN http://www.ninds.nih.gov/health_and_medical/disorders/trigemin_doc.htm http://www.tna-support.org/ http://www.bgsm.edu/bgsm/surg-sci/ns/tn-hfs.html http://www.tna-support.org/Defiition.htm http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/921990870.html Tourettes Syndrome http://www.ninds.nih.gov/health_and_medical/disorders/tourette.htm http://www.angelfire.com/ok/onedayatatime/ http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/922670759.html Diabetic Neuropathy - just for reference http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/921725216.html We need all of the medical conditions that are known in the Messer family lines, especially the members who have or had the conditions, CMT / Trigeminal Neuralgia [TN] / and also Tourettes Syndrome. The main focus of the physician is on the CMT and TN. I have also included the Tourettes information as it is also a tic disorder and Diabetic Neuropathy. I also need as much family information as possible, genealogical data, that I can get to include into the file. Any help is appreciated. The neurologist is also looking at the prevalence of diabetes in the family line, since it also causes a "neuropathy". If you wish to contact the neurologist with specific questions, his name is Dr. James Lewis. His practice is at: 55 Medical Park - Suite 106 Franklin, NC 28734 828-369-7268 828-369-4488 (FAX) treehaus@dnet.net My thanks is extended to everyone who has responded with questions and information. 1. [NCALAMAN] Marriage Bonds
    2. -- I have created a web page for Marriage Bond Index of NC 1741-1868 <A HREF="http://marriagebondofnc.homestead.com/Home.html">marriagebondofNC </A> http://marriagebondofnc.homestead.com/Home.html This page is not complete and will not be complete for several months. There are over 8,000 Bride and 8,000 Groom microfilm pages that list all marriage bonds for all counties of NC. I will add new surnames weekly so please don't get discouraged if you do not see the surname you are looking for. I have discovered that once you obtain the Index page that you are looking for it is easier to contact the NC Archives and get a copy of the original Marriage Bond. If you would like a specific Surname added to the page you may send me an e-mail and I will put that name on my list to add ASAP. All I ask is that you send one e-mail per Surname. You may send as many Surnames as you like, but please do so separately so that I may easily alphabetize my list that I take with me. In the Subject area put MB of NC (this will get my attention) In the body of the e-mail type the surname you would like added in ALL CAPS. Best of Luck to you all in your search for your ancestors. Posted on: Alamance County, NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Alamance/678 Surname: Kerr, McArtor ------------------------- I am trying to locate anyone who might have the biography started by Fred J. Kerr in the 1970's titled "Descendents of Robert Kerr, Sr. and Some Kin". All I have are eleven rough pages that have been copied and handed down so many times that a lot of the words have been cut off or faded out. I do not know if he ever finished this project, but would love to hear from anyone that has a copy of it or may know someone who does. I know that Fred J. Kerr had a son named Fred M. Kerr and that he married a Beatrice McArtor. I can be reached at above email address or at jbk6397@ aol.com. I have seen in the paper for Alamance County that a Frederick McArtor Kerr, died in Graham on April 16, 1997 and he has to be a son of Fred J. Kerr.

Once you identify their parents, follow the same procedure with their death certificates for previous generations. The death certificate became mandatory in 1913, so you have several generations to gain by accessing those records. Parallel that with marriage licenses and deeds, and you should learn a lot about them. John Fox Winston Salem, NC

    2. Hi Folks, I just found a few interesting things out the other day and hope someone can fill in some more blanks. I have an UNNOWN HUGHES who married SUSAN CATHERINE INGLE. Susan Ingle also married DANIEL RILEY MAY who died in the Civil War. Based on her age, from a census, I believe that she married Daniel Riley MAY when she was very young, had 4 children by him, and was widowed during the Civil War. She and UNKNOWN HUGHES who apparently always lived in Burlington, NC area had at least 1 son named PETE HUGHES. Pete and his wife LIBBY UNKNOWN always lived in the same area. Pete and Libby had 4 children, 2 sons & 2 daughters. Which HUGHES married Susan Catherine Ingle May? Dates...after 1865....is she listed in 1870 census? 1880? Did they have other children besides PETE HUGHES? Who did Pete and Hyacinth's daughter MITTIE HUGHES marry? Any other info would be greatly appreciated. Sure hope to connect with a HUGHES researcher from the same line!!
