Found an interesting document online. The 1801 Petition of Milley and Howey Lane (infants) against the estate of Isham Lane, their father. It states Isham Lane the younger "only reputed to be the son of the said intestate, that he was not born in wedlock and was not legally intitled to any share of the property real or personal of his intestate." Children named "BRYAN LANE, MATHEW, JOHN, CULLEN, BETHANEY, SALLY, PENNY, ELIZABETH and your petitioners, MILLEY and HOWEY, his only legitimate children."
