I also need to add to Bill's brief eulogy on Allen Churchill and note of sympathy to his family. When I sent my initial feelers out across the Internet about my Pitt County family history about 5 yrs ago, Allen was one of the first to respond with real, concise and extremely helpful information... which coincidentally pointed that he and I were related along our Christman and Evans family lines. I was at first surprised, but now realize that being related is more the rule than the exception among this group! Allen's initial notes led me to more of his diligent research, enabling me to dig up (both figuratively and literally) many of my Pitt County roots going back more than 250 years... culminating most recently with a cemetery relocation project that (once again, it seems) included the remains of Evans ancestors that Allen and I have in common. The great thing about Allen's work, of course, is that it lives on to benefit many others for years to come. I'm sure his spirit is happy about that legacy right now, just as his ancestors must be welcoming, congratulating, and thanking him for a job well done!
