Dear PCFR Group, My search for ancestors in Pitt County has led to the discovery of two neglected family cemeteries along the Falkland Hwy, in addition to the one behind my old homeplace where my grandparents, uncle, aunt and foster gr-grandparents are buried. Proceeds from timber harvesting last fall have enabled me to move forward with plans to consolidate these small family plots into a larger one that will be more accessible and easier to maintain. There is a strict legal procedure involved, including posting of a notice in the local newspaper at least four times. Thinking there may be interested persons in this group who don't subscribe to the local newspaper or otherwise haven't seen the notice, I have copied the legal notice currently running in the Daily Reflector and pasted it below. I am scheduled to make a brief presentation about it to the regular meeting of Pitt County Commissioners, Mon. Dec. 19. I have contracted with Ward Sutton & Co. of Rocky Mount to do the work, once the Commissioners have officially authorized it. Sometime later in the spring after restoration has been completed and the grass has grown back, I want to hold a brief dedication ceremony onsite for descendants and other interested parties. When the time comes, I will update this group on those plans. Following is the notice as it appears in the Daily Reflector: "NOTICE OF INTENTION TO DISINTER, REMOVE AND REINTER GRAVES: Notice is hereby given to the known and unknown relatives of those persons buried in The Evans/Forbes and Arthur Forbes Family Cemeteries in Pitt County, North Carolina.
