Thanks, Dani Frederick White's age is estimated from the census records for Pitt Co., NC in 1850, 1860, and 1870. 1850 Census, Pitt Co., Griffin Twp. Fred White 26 (b.1824) Mary White 30 Jacky A 6 Mary A 5 John B 2 Susan A 5/12 Susan White 20 1860 Census Pitt Co. Greenville Twp. Fredrick White 46 (b. 1814) Mary White 50 J A 16 M A 13 J B 11 Susan 9 Martha 7 1870 Census Pitt Co. Contentnea Twp. Fred White 54 (b.1816) Mary 50 John 22 Martha 17 Margaret 15 Mary A Cannon 23 Tilghman Cannon 2 John T Cannon 6/12 Next door to Fred White in 1870 is: Elizabeth White 16 Edward White 1 John Cannon 49 Is this Elizabeth White a child of Fred and Mary White? Is this John Cannon, age 49, father or grandfather of Tilghman Cannon and John T. Cannon in Fred White's household next door? It's very common in census records for the age of a person to vary in several census years. In 1850 Fred White's birth year is indicated to be 1824. In 1860, it is 1814. In 1870 it is 1816. An average of these three would be 1818. ...Or you might feel the two census records indicating 1814 and 1816 are pretty close together and might be seen as probably more correct than 1824. Mary''s age is listed as 50 in 1860 and 1870. I would suspect it was probably 40 in 1860. That would indicate 1820 as her birth year in all three census years. It's hard to know how to interpret these inconsistencies in Census records unless you have a different source that would confirm their ages in one of these records. Brenda
