I have been doing some research on the Norcott family and it is very interesting. John Norcott d. July 6, 1845 m. 1st Sarah Simpson Brickell b. Sept 5, 1799 d. Sept 12, 1820, d/o Joseph John Brickell and Sarah Simpson, d/o John Simpson and Elizabeth Hardee. John and Sarah had son Joseph John Norcott b. Sept. 5, 1820 John Norcott m. 2nd Sallie Biddle b. Aug 1812, d/o William Phillips Biddle and Mary Nixon Simpson. John and Sallie had a daughter Mary Biddle Norcott b. 1843. Mary Biddle Norcott m. Henry Ravenscroft Bryan in 1859 and had a number of children. Mary Biddle Norcott Bryan wrote an interesting letter or remembraces, Echoes of the Past. It was a story of her life. I have a copy of this. One of the intereting places was Woodlawn Plantation which John Norcott owned either in Pitt or Beaufort. She had lived in the Norcott house in Greenville until she was 7 then moved to Woodlawn. She wrote about boat rides on Tranters Creek and visiting families like the Grists. Also another plantation called Brandon near Raleigh. Also plantation in Craven. After her father died her mother m. S. B. Carraway. She went to live then at Monticello in Lenoir County. John Norcott had a sister Ann who m. William Bernard, William's father was Germaine Bernard and came from France. If anyone is interested in this family let me know and I will send you a genealogy report in Word form. This will not include her writings. Bill
