In the NC General Assembly Session Records, Nov. 1848-Jan. 1849, Box 3, Senate Bills (Nov. 28-Dec.8)is found: Bill authorizing Daniel Skeen, a free man of color, of Lenoir Co., NC, to emancipate his wife and daughter. His wife, named Charlotte, though a slave, is nearly white. They married about 30 years before. They had several children, but only daughter Hollon survives.
