I found the following information on the William Wooten family. SOURCE: Eastern NC Wootns by John Wooten William Wooten, of Edgecombe was b. ca 1710 in Virginia. After the death of his parents he settled on the Blackwater section of Isle of Wight County, VA. His wife's name was Ann (possibly Bryant). James Bryant lived on adjoining land. In 1744 he sold his land in Virginia. There was a grant of 300 acres in Northampton County, NC for William Wooten March 15, 1742. By 1755 William and his family had moved into Johston County, NC. William was a hatter by trade and taught his younger brother John Wooten the trade. It is possible that William Wooten lived in Bertie County, NC at one time. On June 6, 1756 he bought 188 acres in Edgecombe County, NC. He worked as a planter and a hatter. William Wooten raised four sons AMOS, JOEL, JAMES and JOSHUA.
