Thanks for the reply, Martha; In Bertie Co, John Griffin was adjoining our William Wilson and Richard Braswell on Cashie Swamp in 1720s. Some of what seem to be John Griffin's offspring appear in Nash Co starting back before it was formed. There they also are adjoining Wilsons who are descended from William Wilson and Rebecca Braswell/Bracewell. This Griffin family did marry one of the Braswells in Nash or it's forerunner county. On the 1850 census in Pitt Co, Samuel and Harriet (Holloway) Wilson have included in their household Samuel's sister Catherine who died without surviving children and a 78 year old man, Edmond Holloway, I assume the father of Harriet Wilson. Daniel Wilson is mentioned only once in Edgecombe Co, in 1758 as Witness for a deed from Rchd. Cureton Sr to his son Richd, Jr. I suspect this is the Pitt Co, Daniel Wilson, Sr. Have you seen the Cureton name in Pit Co? How would I go about finding this deposition? Marilyn, >In Bertie Co, John Griffin was adjoining our William Wilson and Richard >Braswell on Cashie Swamp in 1720s. The Griffins that married into the Holloway family in Craven Co were out of ESVA and that is proven; however, they did marry into the Bryan family in Craven Co and the Bryans were out of IOW. This Griffin >family did marry one of the Braswells in Nash or it's forerunner county. > >On the 1850 census in Pitt Co, Samuel and Harriet (Holloway) Wilson have >included in their household Samuel's sister Catherine who died without >surviving children and a 78 year old man, Edmond Holloway, I assume the >father of Harriet Wilson. I have a note under Edmond that he lived in Pitt County but have not followed his line. His parents were John Jr and Ann Griffin as far as I know; however, John's widow was Mary, surname unknown so there is some questions on generations. Something about the various John and William Holloways is not right and some of it I have proven to be wrong but not all of it and not sure what is correct. Lot of conflicting information between two legal cases one in NC and one in SC plus a Bible. John Holloway was bc 1732 as he was 18 in 1752 when he chose John Williams as his guardian and his parents were John and Ann ? Holloway. Williams was his stepfather. It is said this John moved to Ga but Craven records indicate he stayed in Craven and died there ca 1798. There is a copy of a Bible at the DAR that states he went to Ga but the list of children in that Bible is identical to the list of children of his brother William who moved either to SC or Ga depending on which record you believe. That list of children comes from the Court Equity case in Sumter Co, SC. That Bible was printed many years after the entires so I have elected to go with the Court Records in SC. There is no question that the father of Edmund was a John who died in Craven Co. Question is which John. You may be looking a two different Daniel Wilsons - one in Edgecombe and one in Craven who moved to Pitt or they may be the same one. > >Have you seen the Cureton name in Pit Co? No but Sally Griffin md Richard Coulton (also written as Carlton and Couttan) and they were of (Craven County) according to the Bryan-Griffin Supreme Court Case and a bunch of these people ended up in Pitt Co. Sally was the niece of the two Griffin sisters who married Holloway brothers and both said to have gone to Ga. You might want to look in Craven Co. > >How would I go about finding this deposition? The Court Equity case from Sumter Co, SC was in PCFR Quarterly a number of years ago - at least 5 years. You might want to check the indices for the Quarterlies which I believe are on the PCFR website. The Bryan-Griffin case was in the NC Genealogical Quarterly about the same time. You have had me busy today. None of my Holloway information was on the database so have been entering some of it while wrapping presents. Maybe that will make it easier to see what might be correct on this early family. Fortunately my line was down Isabelle, sister to Elizabeth who married Daniel Wilson. Isabelle married Francis Nunn III and they moved to Lenoir Co.
