    1. [NC-PCFR] August Meeting
    2. Brenda Stocks
    3. The August meeting of Pitt County Family Researchers was held tonight, Aug. 20, at Sheppard Memorial Library. We had twenty six people attending, including two visitors. Bill Moye, retired school teacher from Miami, Florida is visiting Pitt County this week researching MOYE, GRIMSLEY, TURNAGE, HEATH, BRILEY, WHITEHURST, and POLLARD. Gary Weissman, an English professor at ECU, was one of our visitors. He is a photographer and is researching the EVANS family whose cemetery is at the Colonial Mall in Greenville. Warren McRoy, our treasurer, reported we have a current balance of $3560.36. We have one more Quarterly to print and mail, one Surname book to print and mail, Reunion expenses( which the registration fee does not completely cover)to pay, and various office supplies to purchase. These budget items will cut our balance down to a few hundred dollars. Due to rising costs of printing, postage, and the cost of supplies, the surplus we have carried for several years is gone. Our exciting new project "Picturing Pitt County" is incurring some new costs for us also. In order to fund the budget adequately, the board voted to raise the annual dues to $30 per year beginning with 2003 (Jan.1,2003-Dec.31, 2003). We regret having to do this...this is the first time the dues have been raised since PCFR was started in 1994. Eleanor Allen is looking into applying for Grant money to fund some of our projects. She has a few sources to check out, and asks if any of you are familiar with any organizations that award grants please e-mail her with your suggestions. jallen@sprintmail.com Grant money would hopefully enable us to buy more new books and software for the history room at Sheppard as well as a second computer for genealogy only. We would also like to be able to subscribe to some genealogy databases such as Heritage Quest and Ancestry.com. The Reunion will be Oct. 11 and 12 at Hooker Memorial Church on Greenville Blvd. There is information about this event enclosed in your Quarterly package. Please return your registration form as soon as possible. Eleanor will be scanning your old photographs for the Picturing Pitt County Collection at the Reunion site on Saturday, Oct. 12. If you are planning to bring pictures to the Reunion, please e-mail Eleanor jallen@sprintmail.com and ask for a form to list your pictures and give identifying information about each photo. This will save much time on the scanning day if you have this completed form with your pictures. If you have any questions about the Reunion, e-mail Janice jtginnc@cox.net or me bstocks@cox.net Chris Oakley, sec. of NC Genealogy Society, announced their annual meeting at the Wake County Commons Building in Raleigh, NC on Nov. 8-9. They will feature two speakers, John Phillip Colleta and Jeffrey Haines. Registration fees for members $35, for non-members $50.
