Betty: I note with much interest your list of surnames including TEACHEY, CARRAWAY, and PITTMAN. My wife's ancestry include Teacheys...Her mother's name was Rosalie Cottle, married William Tolar Shine, both of Duplin County, N.C. Her mother's maiden surname was Teachey, Ella Mae Teachey (1875-1925), whose father was Daniel T. Teachey (1845-1925)and she married a Cottle, James Johnson Cottle (1879-1937). The Teacheys and Cottles lived in the towns of Teachey and Rose Hill, Duplin County, N. C. The Carraway surname is that of my Aunt Mildred Carraway Sutton, now deceased, wife of James William Sutton, Jr. of Bell Arthur (formerly Beaver Dam, thanks). Your Pittman Surname....My mother, Clara Bell Sutton Todd's parents were James William Sutton and Sarah Emily White of Bell Arthur. When I was growing up in the 1930 to 1950s era, she often mentioned her Uncle Dave Pittman, who would come to see her often during the summers in the mid to late 1920s during her early marriage and, walking a long distance, bring to her watermelons. She said he walked every where he went, that he was very fond of her and loved her cooking, but that she knew very little about his family. The Carraway and Pittman surnames would be in Pitt County, of course. Do you have any information about these individuals in your family lineage files/records? If so, I'd sure like for us to share the information we have about them and their families. Jack Todd
Betty; There were Carraways in Sampson Co also. It was there I found my most favorite name in all of the research I have done...Bedriden Carraway. I don't know if I have anything in my records of him but believe he was quite early...at any rate he was a very active man judging from the land records and not likely to have had a health problem.
