Could someone tell me if Beaver Dam Swamp and Drakes Branch are in the Pitt Co area? and if so where are they? I have the description of land of Abram Hobbs which mentions Edward Brewer, Edward Morgan, Burnett Morgan, and Allen Mobley. It is listed in book 33 but gives no dates or even what county. Does anyone have any idea or the time period or county? There is a section of Pitt county near Bell Arthur (about 4 miles west of Greenville) referred to as Beaverdam. I have not heard of Drake. The names you mention do not sound like Pitt names at least in that area. You had Crawford, Willoughbys, Nichols, Suttons, Smiths, Tysons and Joyners in that area. I have a friend who works for Soil Conservation service, will ask him when I see him Sunday. He pretty well knows all the waterways. I do stump him once in a while. Jean, There is a Beaver Dam or Beaverdam Swamp listed for the following counties: Beaufort, Bertie, Brunswick, Columbus, Craven, Halifax, Lenoir, Nash, 2 in Sampson, Wayne & Harnett Take your pick. That does not include the numerous Beaverdam Creeks and Branches, etc. Almost every county has a "Beaver" something. They are prolific little creatures in North Carolina. The name Mobley makes me think of Martin County. There is a Beaverdam Creek in Martin County. There is not a Drakes Branch listed in the book.
