    1. [NC-PCFR] William Haywood Dail, Jr.

    3. William Haywood Dail, Jr. was a farmer, tobacconist, brick maker, car dealer, builder and avid horse racer. Outstanding citizen of Greenville. Reported that when the votes were cast as to the location of East Carolina Teachers College he was counting ate some of the adverse votes so it would be in Greenville. It is reported that he made some of the bricks for the first building at the college. He married Mary Dorcas Blow, daugther of Alexander Lillington Blow. They had son William Haywood, III who died at about 9 years old. As mentioned previously it appears he and Carrie Dail were brother and sister, children of William Haywood, Sr. and Virginia Sugg. This information was taken from article written by Roger Kammerer for the Greenville Times. As usual Roger does an outstanding job.

    3. When did William Haywood Dail die? I have heard something about that vote counting from a story passed down in the Cobb family. It was said that Kinchen Wiley Cobb was privy to that vote counting and that each of the men who were there swore not to tell unless he was the last one living. However, Cobb family stories were (and still are) usually exagerated or embellished.
