Our website has been upgraded and updated! You no longer have to remember that long address...we can now be found at http://newbern.cpclib.org/research/ so be sure to change your favorites in your browser or make changes to your website. The improved website includes two brand new features... First is the "Craven County Digital History Exhibit" which includes maps, currency, and books that have been digitized, described, transcribed and placed online for your research use. See copies of the actual North Carolina currency that your ancestors used from colonial days to the early 1900s...View maps of the world and of Craven County...read accounts of Confederate Prisoners of War or check to see if your ancestor is listed in the 1893 New Berne City Directory. This exhibit was made possible by a $14,000 LSTA Grant that allowed us to purchase the equipment and software to produce the site. Second is the "New Bern Obituary Index" which indexes the dates of obituaries and death notices in New Bern newspapers. The bulk of the index includes obituaries from 1969 to July 2002. Most of the 1860s and 1870s are also indexed. A few other years are also included. Please excuse some of the duplications...we're still trying to figure out how they are duplicating themselves. Finally, the Craven County Register of Deeds has posted their birth and death indexes (1914-present) and marriage indexes (about 1967 to present) and certain land transactions since 1999 on the internet. We have linked to their site on our resources page. Over the next few days...there may be times when the site is unavailable as we make a few subtle changes. In the meantime...enjoy!!
