From the Family Bible of Sarah Frances McGowan Worthington there were two very old frayed pages which were kept inside the newer Bible. Contains information on the Pitt County, NC MOYE and the MAGOUNDS (McGOWAN) family, plus some slave records. Copies of these pages and the WORTHINGTON family Records from Sarah Frances' Bible are on file in Joyner Library, ECU. I had the Bible over there last summer. They already had copies, but made additional ones. They critiqued some of the "professional restoration" which had been done to the Bible in the 1980's. For instance, the old frayed pages were laminated and inserted in the Bible when it was rebound. My transcription: (front side of the first of two frayed pages inserted in the Bible) (top of page is torn) Alefor Magounds His wife was in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred an // Gilford Magound was bornd the 3 of June i our Lord Eighteen Hundred and fifteen--- // Birten Magounds was bornd the 19 of May year of our lord eighten and seventeen -- // Edy the daughter of Rachel was born 20 Apiril Edy the daughter of Rachel Born the 20 day of april in the year of our hundrid one thousand Eaight^thwenty. // the 24 of septemb Gim the sun of Diner was Born Xthe year of ou in year of our Lord one thousen eight hundrid and thirteen ___ _ ____ __ ______ _ ___ _ _____ // P R Eisum the sun of diner was Born the 13 Junary in th year of our lord one thousand Eight hundrid and Sixteen // Ary the dughter of Rachul was Born the 12 of Junary in the year of our lord one thousand Eight hundrid and fifteen // Win the dughter of Harrit was born the 10 of febra in the year of our lord one thousand Eighthundris and Eighteen _ _ _ (back side of the first of two frayed pages inserted in the Bible) and Lydia Moye his wife was July the 21 day in the yer of one thousand eight and eleven B Moye the daughter of Franklen Moye and Lyday Moye His wife was born January the 19th the yare of our lord Eighteen Hundred and fourteen Wallace Nancey Moye the Daughter of Gedeon Moye She died may the 11th 1875 (in pencil) Speir(Spire) Weathington the son of Speir Weathington & rebeca His wife He died April 22th 1875 (front side of the second of two frayed pages inserted in the Bible) Loty Moye wa the daughter of Gidion Moy Nancy Moye His wife was Bornd the 16th of Septembr in the year of our lord one thousand Eig Hundred and ten _ _ _ __ __ _ _ _ _ __ _ _ _ Moses of Rachel and Aron was Bornd 2_ (28 or 24) october in the yar of our Lord one thiusand Eig Hundred and thirteen - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Perlina Moye the daughter of Gedeon Moye and Nancey Moye His wife was born the 18² of Mar in the year of our lord Eighteen Hundred and Sixteen // Arnia Moye the daughter of Gedeon Moye and Moye His wife was Born the 15 of January in year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and twen // Gideon Moye Departed this life (back side of the second of two frayed pages inserted in the Bible) the daughter of Sparkman atha his wife was Born the 30 ay of August in the year of our Lord 1813 Gideon Moye was supposed to be born yeran 1768 _____________ June the _____________________________ 11 Moye departed this Life ^day of November in the year of our lord __ 1821 _____________ _______________ _____________ ldy the daughter of Rachel was Born the 12 of April in year of our lord one thousand Eight hundrid and Eighteen // lan the daughter of Diner was Born the 4 of July in the ar of our lord one thousand eight hundeid and nineteen // orniny the daughter of diner was Born the 7 of August year of our lord one thousanand Eight hundrid and twenty B Lewis My notes: There were other children born to George W. and Alefor McGowan before Burton. The torn part of the page above Burton probably listed Franklin McGowan. Some additional pages may have been lost. Alefor Magounds this name is difficult to read but may be Alifair. Don't know her maiden name. I have wondered if there is a COX connection, since that family used the name Allie Fair. Birten Magounds was Burton McGowan, the father of Sarah Frances McGowan. Arnia Moye, the daughter of Gedeon Moye and Moye His wife (Nancy Brooks) was the mother of Sarah Frances McGowan. Name may have been Arena. I have never determined the father of Nancy Brooks. Loty Moye was probably Zelota, but called Loty; very difficult to tell what this name is, however, Loty Moye's sister Nancy Moye Bridger Wallace named one of her daughters Zelota and called her "Lotty". Sarah Frances McGowan married Alfred Worthington, son of Jeremiah Worthington, Sr. and Elizabeth "Betsy" Forbes. Jeremiah's parents were Spier Worthington/Witherington, Sr. and Rebecca McGlohon. Sarah Frances McGowan Worthington was my great-grandmother.
