    3. Jean an all, I would surmise that William is a son of Nancy's previous to her marriage to James. If William is 23 in 1880, that would place his DOB 1857, before the marriage of James and Nancy in 1862. I think the term "Father in Law" is referring to a relationship we would call "Step-Father".
