Doris, Thanks for the Anne Arrundel County, MD information. As far as is known, the Worthingtons/Witheringtons, Wetheringtons, etc. who ended up in Pitt County, NC, descended from Witheringtons who came into Craven County, NC around 1730. These Witheringtons are known to have come directly from Calvert County, MD, most likely by a water route. So far, to my knowledge, no one has connected the Calvert County Witherington/Widdrington family to the Worthington/Witherington family in Anne Arundel County, MD. It is thought that the Calvert County Witheringtons/Widdringtons immigrated from Northumberland, England during the late 1600's. Considering the close proximity of the two counties, it would not be surprising to find a cousin relationship between the Calvert County Witherington/Widdrington family and the Worthington/Witherington family of Anne Arundel County, MD, but as far as I know, no one has been able to prove one. WITHERINGTON-L@rootsweb.com is a great list to explore the research for the Witherington families from Calvert Co., MD to Craven County, NC. Efforts are being made to research the English connections.
