Janice, Would an old time spelling for May be Moye? I've never understood why those two names aren't considered interchangeable. My ggrandmother was Penelope MOYE; she married (1/28/1852) Joshua TRIPP, SR. Joshua was first married to Allie TYSON (in 1832). I show Penelope's birth as Ca. 1823, however, I have not proven this; Joshua was born Ca 1805. One of her brothers was William Henry MOYE, b Ca 1825. I realize that all of this is a stretch, but wonder if Penelope married a TYSON before marrying Joshua TRIPP. Because they are two entirely different families. The name Moye is found very early in England and I assume May is also. I suspect that Mayo and May might be confused but not May and Moye. We can document the first Moye in the US in the mid 1600's and who he married in London before moving to Va. Both were killed by the Indians.
