The name Seth interests me as a Seth Smith Witherington who on the 1860 census says that he was born in NC. I have found no other Seths in the Witherington line or any of the know collateral lines. Is it possible that there is a relationship between Seth Tyson and Seth Smith Witherington who migrated to Ralph, Tuscaloosa Co, AL before 1844? Are there many Seths in the late 1700s and early 1800s Jean jow@kua.net From Sunny Florida Where oh where are my ancestors hiding. -----Original Message----- From: Paula Baker <paulabaker69@hotmail.com> To: NC-PCFR-L@rootsweb.com <NC-PCFR-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Saturday, April 20, 2002 7:12 PM Subject: [NC-PCFR] Penny Tyson 1850 Greene Co >Need Martha's help with this one, or anybody's help. Jean, Seth was a fairly common name with several families of Pitt County. I have a hunch that if Seth Smith Worthington came out of the Pitt or Craven County area, he may have had ties to the Suttons, Haddocks, and Smiths of southern Pitt County. This is just a hunch. There was a Benjamin Sutton, b. ca 1765, d. abt 1843, md. ca 1797 to Kisiah "Kissey" Haddock. They had a son Seth. Kisiah "Kissey" Haddock had ties to families that may be related to Witheringtons and Smiths and Mills. I've been monitoring the Smith, Tyson, & Witherington traffic and it seems that there may be a tie to my gg grandfather Sherrod Thomas Smith who was most likely born in Pitt County April 24, 1821. His parents have not been positively identified as yet. But his wife, Sarah Venters, daughter of Benjamin Venters, Jr, grew up in S. Pitt Co. On Sherrod & Sarah 1847 marriage bond in Craven Co., was the bondsman Redding Witherington. They had 2 sons; Redding Witherington Smith (my g grandfather) and Stephen Augustus Smith. Whenever I start working on the above lines the name Sherrod Tyson and Witherington appears. vr, Carroll
