    1. [NC-PCFR] PCFR July Meeting
    2. Brenda Stocks
    3. Pitt County Family Researchers held their July meeting Tuesday night, July 16 at Sheppard Memorial Library. We had 30 people present, including two guests, Faye Stainback of Ayden and her daughter Connie. Faye became a member of PCFR last night. She is researching Hodges and Angel. We are so pleased that attendance has been so strong all year. We usually have a drop off of attendance numbers in the summer, but not this year. Janice announced that our membership is now 300, the largest it has ever been. It is wonderful to see that more and more people with Pitt County roots are becoming involved in the search for our ancestors and the preservation of the history of Pitt County. Roger Kammerer talked about the Hometown Bethel Preservation project. A group of Bethel residents, including some of our members (Betty Robbins and Anne Carroll) are trying to save some of the old buildings of Bethel that are scheduled to be torn down. As part of an effort to raise money, they are selling an assortment of note cards with various scenes and buildings from Bethel. These pictures are from a series of water colors that were painted by Roger Kammerer. If anyone would like more information about purchasing these notecards, contact Janice or me. William Cox announced that he had found two new surnames in his lines. He is looking information on Hatch and Heath families. Roger Kammerer announced that the Historical Society is looking into reprinting the book Chronicles of Pitt County North Carolina. This is good news for many people who have been searching for a copy of this book. It has been unavailable for several years. Barry Munson's new book, Obituaries of the Henderson Goldleaf, was purchased and submitted to the library. Jim Brown reminded everyone that we are electing the following officers this year: Vice President, Treasurer, and one Board Member. He talked about the duties of each position. Vice President will conduct meetings that the President is unable to attend, be chairman of the election committee, and the Bylaws committee. The Treasurer must submit a monthly report at each meeting of all deposits and disbursements, and keep an updated accounting of all financial activities. There is software furnished for management of this accounting on computer. Board Members from the membership at large, along wiith the officers, make up the Executive Board. This Board meets once a month on the same night as the regular meeting to discuss the business of PCFR and make any decisions on policy, purchases, projects, etc. If you would like to submit nominations for these positions (Vice President, Treasurer, and 1 Board Member) please send them to Janice Gurganus jtginnc@cox.net by August 1. It would be considerate to contact the people you would like to nominate and make certain that they will be willing to serve in this position. These positions are each important to the make up of the board, and we would hope that anyone accepting one of these positions would make a serious commitment to attend the meetings(except for good reasons), and do their job. Ballots will go out before Reunion in October. Speaking of Reunion,, the date is October 11 and 12 at the Hooker Memorial Church Activities Building again. Registration will be $15 this year. This includes transportation to the libraries on Friday, doughnuts and coffee both mornings, catered lunch on Saturday, and FREE use of the copy machine. We will have our vertical files, Quarterlies and other research resources owned by members at the Reunion site. Again we will meet for dinner on Friday night at a local restaurant...each will pay for his own meal Friday night. Eleanor Allen will be scanning your old family pictures for the Picturing Pitt County Project that we have at Sheppard Memorial Library, so gather the ones you would like to have in this collection representing your family and bring them to Reunion. Eleanor also hopes to set up another scanning day at Sheppard Memorial Library this Fall. Remember, you can send scanned copies of pictures you would like to have in this collection by e-mail to Janice or me. We will get them to Eleanor. Remember also that Martha Marble and Tracy Putnam are planning a Dobbs County (Greene and Lenoir) Reunion for July 03 in Kinston. They would welcome any suggestions or ideas that you might have.
