Bill, Probably by 1885 the cemetery would have been gone since that had become the downtown district, but I have seen a Sanborn map that showed a barbecue pit behind a store (in Winterville) so if there was a cemetery in downtown Greenville, it should have been shown on the map. Bill, On page 23 of "The Architectural Heritage of Greenville, North Carolina" there is a section of an 1885 Sanborn map showing that includes the corner of Evans and Fourth Streets on it. Looks like there are at least five stores on the that lot, but the cemetery could have been in one of the alleys. It might be worth finding a copy of the actual map and examining it. That is a possibility. There use to be an old Smith cemetery in this area. Also there were several graves moved to Cherry Hill Cemetery. One was a very old one and I cannot recall his name. The grave is on the back side of Cherry Hill at the bottom of the hill. Will check that name. Will get Roger's article on Greenville grave sites that is in the cemetery survey. Bill, I guess other towns had lot numbers, but what other town in Pitt County would have had 104 lots in 1825. Seems like it has to be in Greenville. Dear Sammy and other Spivey researchers. I have family notes ( I have not done research on this line) that my 6th great grandfather was Caleb Spivey but he must have been born in the 1730-40 time frame because my 5th g.grandmother was his daughter. Her name was Nancy and she was born ?1760 in Franklin County. She married William Forrest of Dobbs County (He was in the Rev.War and the land he was granted in Pitt County is still in the Forrest family). Nancy Spivey Forrest died 10 November 1843. I know the Nancy Spivey/Wm. Forrest info is correct as it is my DAR record and I am the third in the DAR on that line. I am interested in any info on a possible 2nd Caleb Spivey. I was always told his wife was Sarah Roundtree (daughter of Jesse) but the time does not sync. Hi Pat, I'm still subscribed to this mail list, but have totally "retired" from genealogical research. If you are seeking info on the Nelson family, I have to say that you already have everything in my notes--we corresponded several times in the past. Nothing new to offer you. Sorry about that. I'm glad to know that you are still out there and wish you much luck. My retirement from ECU is the best thing I've done in the last 40 years! Having a blast being totally unproductive and lazy as sin--and having time to actually be with the living family members I have left. Not that I minded all those years--ECU was a great ride, but it's over now. I only stay on this list because it's fun to read about what all my good genelogy friends are up to--there are really great people here! Good luck in your research! Bill, Thanks for providing Dot's information. I didn't have anything on Stewart and it filled in some gaps for me. Did Dot provide any information or speculation on Thomas Summerell b. Bef 1755 and d. between 1820-1830 in Lenoir Co.? Thomas was in Lenoir Co. in 1800 and 1810 and it appears he had at least 4 sons. I've speculated he was the father of James who lived in close proximity in 1810 and1820 and of William Paul (father of Barnes Staton) who first appears in the 1820 census next to James and on the same page as Thomas. I haven't found Stewart, but he would have been the right age to be another son of Thomas. Thanks again. Sammy Pierce Hobe Sound, FL
