    2. Bill Kittrell
    3. I found the following information on the William Wooten family. SOURCE: Eastern NC Wootns by John Wooten William Wooten, of Edgecombe was b. ca 1710 in Virginia. After the death of his parents he settled on the Blackwater section of Isle of Wight County, VA. His wife's name was Ann (possibly Bryant). James Bryant lived on adjoining land. In 1744 he sold his land in Virginia. There was a grant of 300 acres in Northampton County, NC for William Wooten March 15, 1742. By 1755 William and his family had moved into Johston County, NC. William was a hatter by trade and taught his younger brother John Wooten the trade. It is possible that William Wooten lived in Bertie County, NC at one time. On June 6, 1756 he bought 188 acres in Edgecombe County, NC. He worked as a planter and a hatter. William Wooten raised four sons AMOS, JOEL, JAMES and JOSHUA.

    1. [NC-PCFR] Plantations
    2. Bill Kittrell
    3. I have been doing a little research of landings and Plantations along the Tar River down to Beaufort County. I am still in the process of adding information. Here are a couple of excerpts from Beaufort. BELLEFONT PLANTATION.Beaufort County, home of Reading Blount (b. Feb 22, 1757), son of Jacob and Barbara Gray Blount, born at Blount Hall. "Belfont Plantation House is among the most interesting eighteenth century dwellings in northeastern North Carolina, with its restrained Georgian finish well preserved throughout. Of particular significance is the impressive pair of double-shouldered exterior end chimneys joined by a two-story brick pent--a massive composition of brick laid in Flemish bond, rising from an English bond foundation. The chimney form is related to that at the Palmer-Marsh House (ca. 1744); the construction date of Belfont is unknown, but appears to be later. The property was owned after 1753 by the Lanier family. Reading Blount, who owned it after 1797, served as an officer in George Washington's main army in the American Revolution." . . . "The Palmer-Marsh House is dated 1744, but the architectural character of Belfont appears to suggest a later building date. The house was probably built by William Lanier after he purchased the property in 1753." (Source: Belfont Plantation House National Register Nomination, 1976) CREEKMERE PLANTATION.Beaufort County, home of Allen Grist (b. ca 1792 d. ca 1866). Creekmere, on Tranters Creek about two miles from Washington, was built by Colonel John Kennedy in 1750. This home was the social center of refined hospitality. The ends of the house are of brick while the front and back are of wood. The interior was very elegant in its day and though marred by abuse and time, the living room is a fine example of the panel work and wainscoting of that period. In the bedrooms upstairs there are little corner fireplaces not larger than 12 inches wide. Allen Grist bought this place from Kennedy and lived there during the winter months and ran a large fishery. His main dwelling was on the top of the hill about a mile away, where S.M. Lee now lives. Creekmere is now owned by Mrs. Mary Hackett, a daughter of General Grimes, who purchased it after the war. ROSEDALE PLANTATION. "Rosedale Plantation was developed from several tracts of land purchased by Col. Thomas Latham (1773-1854) from Allen Grist, sheriff of Beaufort County, in 1832 and 1840." (Source: Rosedale National Register Nomination, 1980)

    1. [NC-PCFR] NORCOTT
    2. Bill Kittrell
    3. I have been doing some research on the Norcott family and it is very interesting. John Norcott d. July 6, 1845 m. 1st Sarah Simpson Brickell b. Sept 5, 1799 d. Sept 12, 1820, d/o Joseph John Brickell and Sarah Simpson, d/o John Simpson and Elizabeth Hardee. John and Sarah had son Joseph John Norcott b. Sept. 5, 1820 John Norcott m. 2nd Sallie Biddle b. Aug 1812, d/o William Phillips Biddle and Mary Nixon Simpson. John and Sallie had a daughter Mary Biddle Norcott b. 1843. Mary Biddle Norcott m. Henry Ravenscroft Bryan in 1859 and had a number of children. Mary Biddle Norcott Bryan wrote an interesting letter or remembraces, Echoes of the Past. It was a story of her life. I have a copy of this. One of the intereting places was Woodlawn Plantation which John Norcott owned either in Pitt or Beaufort. She had lived in the Norcott house in Greenville until she was 7 then moved to Woodlawn. She wrote about boat rides on Tranters Creek and visiting families like the Grists. Also another plantation called Brandon near Raleigh. Also plantation in Craven. After her father died her mother m. S. B. Carraway. She went to live then at Monticello in Lenoir County. John Norcott had a sister Ann who m. William Bernard, William's father was Germaine Bernard and came from France. If anyone is interested in this family let me know and I will send you a genealogy report in Word form. This will not include her writings. Bill

    1. [NC-PCFR] Happy New Year
    2. Bill Kittrell
    3. I hope that each of you had a Merry Christmas and are looking forward to a great year in your research in 2009. Now after saying that I want you to make it a better year. I am going to get on my soapbox and speak to myself as well as others. Please be courteous and share with others. I know I am guilty of not answering my emails sometimes. I try to do this but I get busy on other things. If I don't reply let me know. There are those who I don't know that request family info. I send them a genealogy report and request info from them. Guess what, I never hear from them again. But I find a gold nugget in return sometimes so I keep on sending info to everyone. Then there are the ones who don't answer and you send an email to see if they got the report. Their reply, I only check my emails every two or three weeks. Why do they have an email address and do research over the internet? But after saying all of that, I appreciate all of you who share and go out of your way to help others. I will always try to help any of you. If I can't I will try to put you in touch with someone who can. How can I say all of that. Because I am old enough and you can't argue with old folks, also you learn from your own mistakes. Thanks to all of you who make genealogy such a pleasure. Bill

    3. on behalf of Evelyn Hendricks (rebh@ec.rr.com) Howell Peopples, b. abt. 1800, d. 17 March 1858 in Pitt Co. m. abt. 1831 to Clara, b. abt. 1802, d. abt. 1865 in Pitt Co. (The Census records show them living in the Falkland area. I had always thought I found Howell in the 1860 Census, but it must have been just Clary that I found. The Bible record shows her name as Clary, but I suspect it was Clara.) Children:1. Disha Ann Peopples, b. 8 May 1833 in Pitt Co.2. Abraham Peopples, b. 16 March 1837. His military shows he served in the Confederate Army and was wounded severely. That is the last record I have for him. He never returned home according to oral information.3. Lovey Peopples, b. 0 Feb.. 1839 in Pitt Co.4. Sally Peopples, b. 17 Dec. 1840 in Pitt Co., d. 27 June 1917 in Wilson Co. M. as his (2) wife Hardy F. Skinner of the Saratoga area.5. Fanny Peopples, b. 28 July 1850 in Pitt Co., d. 9 Feb. 1925 in Wilson Co.8. Martha Peopples, b. 7 March 1854 in Pitt Co.9, Mary Peopples (twin to Martha) b. 7 March 1854 near Falkland, Pitt Co., NC. D. 29 March 1908 in Saratoga, Wilson Co., NC. B. in Everett Cemetery near Saratoga. M. March 24, 1877 to William Wright Price. The last two, Mary and William Wright, were my father's grandparents. Any help any one can give on any of these will be greatly appreciated.Oh, I almost forgot. In the Bible page that I found in my grandmother's trunk there was a separate piece of the same type of paper that had one entry on it. "Benjamin Peeble, son of Lovey Peeble, was borned Dec. 6, 1860." This paper was rolled up tightly, tied with thread, and placed in a cloth envelope. The paper with the other births listed was wrapped around the cloth envelope and the whole secured with a thread. It was originally a Bible record according to an older cousin and the Bible had belonged to her father, Howell's grandson. His housekeeper's child tore up the Bible one day and that was all that he could find of it.I have found the name spelled both ways.Evelyn _________________________________________________________________ It’s the same Hotmail®.
