This falls very heavily on Mr. Wingate, being for the better part of his entire crop of this year. He had about$150. insurance on the building. Miss Maggie Dixon of Black Jack has been here on a visit to friends. W. L, Browning, bookkeeper for J. R. Smith Co., has returned from his summer vacation and is at his old stand. Allen against the town of Greenville occupied nearly all of Monday in court, and after being out on the case all night the jury this morning returned a verdict in favor of the town. One night about two years ago, Allen drove into a ditch on Tenth street, near the depot and sued the town for $600. damages.

Roger, have forwarded some of these to other lists - Greene and Lenoir mostly. Many thanks for this great information. I have additional information on Priscilla Rogers at least on her Lang side. I found the below most interesting as the names are almost identical to the names of Gov. Richard Caswell's children whose mother was a Dallum. Caswell's first wife was a Mackelwain. Not sure if the Caswell researchers know about this. One would have to assume that Seymour also came from Baltimore Co, Md. It is not a name I am familiar with. Charlotte Observer. Mr. Charles Roundtree died at his home on West Ninth stree last night about 10 o'clock, at the advanced age of 83. Deceased has been near the end for a week. His son arrived from Greenville, Pitt county, several nights ago, and was with his father when he died. Mr. Roundtree came here about nine years ago from Pitt County. He had never been engaged in active business since moving here. Hiswife and several children by his former marriage survive him. DEATH OF MRS LAUGHINHOUSE Mrs. Margaret Laughinghouse died at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. E. S. Laughinghouse, near Johnstor Mills, Pitt County,one day the past week, at the age of 74-1/2 years. Charlotte Observer. The Greenville Reflector says that Sunday morning severl boys around Grimesland, Pitt County, went to the river at Boyd's ferry to go swimming. Marshall Godley, aged about 15 years, was drowned. In the NC General Assembly Session Records, Nov. 1848-Jan. 1849, Box 3, Senate Bills (Nov. 28-Dec.8)is found: Bill authorizing Daniel Skeen, a free man of color, of Lenoir Co., NC, to emancipate his wife and daughter. His wife, named Charlotte, though a slave, is nearly white. They married about 30 years before. They had several children, but only daughter Hollon survives.
