    2. Paula Baker
    3. Betty, I'm working on a census list of Bakers in Greene and Pitt. One thing I did today (we've spent a lot of time napping today) was look at the 1820 Greene Co. census. I can only find one Baker on the list for 1820, a young Benjamin Baker 16-26 with another male 16-18 and various younger boys and girls as well as two women 16-26. Makes me wonder if the 16-18 could be our James, perhaps Benjamin's brother. Also, I'm wondering if our James lived in Pitt Co. (or some other county) until he married Priscilla. That farm could have been hers. She was Priscilla Darden who married Abraham Moye. I don't know the year he died yet. It's possible he went to live on her farm instead of the other way around. In 1830 a Benjamin and James live next to each other in Greene Co. but another James appears on the list the same age as the one next to Benjamin. I'm wondering if he married Priscilla early. We need to know when Abraham Moye died. 3. Betty, A John B. Baker married an Octavia Weaver in NC. This line moved to TX eventually. They have Hines Bakers in their line, just as you and I do, but when I contacted these people, they said that the Hines came from their grandmother's family. The Hines Bakers, I think there were two, were oil people from TX. One was Hines Holt Baker and one of his people wrote the books Bakers Forever then Bakers Forever and Ever. My library here has the book. I haven't looked at it, though. Go to the LDS site and put in John Baker with Octavia. If that doesn't work, go to Rootsweb and do the same. This may not be the same John B. Baker. Here is another thought. I wonder if James Baker, born 1804, married a May first because James Hines Baker and Josiann Hobbs named their first child May. It had never occurred to me before, but William May of Greene County witnessed a number of documents for our line of Bakers. Bill Kittrell in this group may know about Mays and Bakers marrying in Greene Co and Pitt County. If anyone else receives both a replacement Quarterly and the original one sent out, please let us know. We're going to take a hard look at the present mail setup and other options. Hopefully we can find a way to eliminate some of the mail problems we have. Thank you all for your patience. As Janice said, if you end up receiving two, donate the second one to a local library. If you need to get a message to Janice, you can just post to this list or e-mail me, and I will get the message to her. Brenda

    1. [NC-PCFR] PCFR QUARTERLIES AND OTHER MAILINGS
    2. Janice Tripp Gurganus
    3. Hello Friends Who Are Longing to Read the February Quarterly!!! I have just returned from a few days out of town and find that others of you have written that you haven't received your February quarterly. Some have written that they are not receiving their monthly letters and other correspondence from PCFR. If you are still having these problems, please drop me a note PRIVATELY (jtginnc@coxnc.rr.com) and let me know. I mailed an armful of replacement quarterlies on my trip, so some of you may have received yours by now. I have spoken with others who use bulk-rate mailing and they are having the same problem that we are experiencing. Many have raised the price of their publications so as to mail everything first class; that has solved their problem. Also, first class mail can be forwarded, but bulk mail cannot. We may have to look into this if we continue to experience problems. We certainly want all of you to get your mail. Please let me know if you are still waiting for your quarterly. Janice Janice Tripp Gurganus PCFR Secretary

    1. [NC-PCFR] Members Meeting
    2. Kathryn
    3. Good Afternoon, Sorry for the late report, trouble with mail. The members of PCFR met March 19, 2002 for our monthly meeting. It was a huge success! 32 people were in attendance. We have two new members, Dewey Grubb and David Briley. Ms. Grubb is researching the surnames Nichols, Nantz, Parker, and Harris. Janice reported that we have over 255 members, more joining all the time. She also spoke about the problem with the quarterlies reaching some of our members. It seems this is more common in the Virginia and DC areas. If you have not yet gotten the latest, contact Janice. Speaking of the quarterlies, we are looking into having them done professionally. The rules of the post office constantly change and the task of putting them together takes days. We hope to have them contracted out before the next issue is due. Warren reported that the computer has been paid for! Thanks to all for the special donations. Eleanor reported on the computer in the library. It's a great success! It is getting a lot of use. She has printed out instruction manuals of Family Tree Maker and Personal Ancestral File that are kept beside the computer for the newer researchers. She plans to have a manual of Legacy also. We have also purchased a CD read/write which will enable us to copy a CD to a CD. The read/write will be available at every meeting. Eleanor and Mr. Nelms have planned a special day for April 20, 2002 from 10:00am until 1:00pm at the library. On this day, PCFR members will be at the library to scan photographs belonging to present and former Pitt County citizens. Once complied, a CD will be made and added to our vast archive collection. It will be our first visual archive. Betsy plans to have a slide show going while people wait to have their photos scanned. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Brenda informed us of having 109 members on the mail list. She encouraged everyone to read, post, and share. Roy Glen Jackson, Jr. donated "Joseph Jackson, Sr., Family, ca 1720-1790/91," compiled by Boyd R. Switzer. Several visitors were in attendance. Discussion went on until after 8:30. Folks went to the History Room to look at the computer and our huge collection of information. Plan to attend the next meeting. They are held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm at Sheppard Memorial Library. Recording Secretary, Kathryn D. Clark

    3. Dear Kathryn, The meeting sounds as if PCFR's are really going to town. Wish I could be there for them. Now that I am retired and have the time and energy to work on all my family lines, I am far away. What an asset the computor is to the research facilities at the library. I, also, did not receive my Feb. quarterly. Have let Janice know, but cannot wait to get it. I read every work in them .
