My family ,or at least part of my family has been in the pitt-martin-beufort county area since the 1600's.My great-grandfather was Charles Tucker who in 1854 built a house on what is now the new bern highway. They also owned that store down ther on the corner of where pitt plaza is now at new bern highway and 64 bypass. At the pitt county fairgrounds where the old settlers farm buildings are is the former home of my great-grandmother's family- the brooks. Those buildings are theirs or at least the last I knew they were there.I have never lived as an adult in Pitt cty. We moved when I was four in about 1962.I enjoy your site immensely although not knowing much about the area there are some things that mean nothing to me.If anyone is related or has info about thaese families please post it or e-mail me! I live in Nashville,tn. thanks,Bill Greene __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Games - play chess, backgammon, pool and more http://games.yahoo.com/

Sarah Venters', wife of Sherrod Thomas Smith, father Benj Venters' siblings were 1) Susan Venters who married Zachariah Gardner, 2) Argent Venters who married John F. Smith, 3) Amellia Venters who married John Witherington, 4) George Washington Venters, Sr who married 1st Rachel Gwaltney and 2nd Sophia Ann Buck, 5) Mary Venters who married Ransom Buck. At the moment, I don't have any thing on Sherrod Witherington, the son of Redding Witherington and Nancy Ann Smith. Redding Witherington was the bondsman on the marriage bonds of Sarah Venters and Sherrod Thomas Smith. The siblings of Sherrod Thomas Smith have not been clearly identified. I don't have a listing for a Nancy Witherington who married a Venters. This doesn't mean that a marriage doesn't exist. It seems to be a connection somewhere within the communities of families. vr, Carroll Jean wrote: > Very interesting. Roger Kammerer, local historian and editor of our own Pitt County Genealogical Quarterly, will hold a walking tour of historical sites in downtown Greenville on Sunday, April 28, from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Participants should gather at 2:45 p.m. at the corner of 5th and Evans Streets, under the clock. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring your walking stick or portable stool. This will be an interesting and fun event. Good Morning, Friends, We received a CD from Diane Whitehurst Collins with many wonderful old family pictures of her Whitehurst/Andrews ancestors to add to our photo archives. Many thanks to you, Diane. We really appreciate your contribution. This a good format for sending photos to us; however, you do not have to send them on a CD. You may e-mail them to Brenda (bstocks@coxnc.rr.com) or to me (jtginnc@coxnc.rr.com) and we'll get them to Eleanor; we don't want to fill up Eleanor's mailbox! You may also send the actual photographs; they will will be treated tenderly and they will be returned to you right away. If you send any photos, disks, or CDs by mail, PLEASE send them to PCFR, P. O. Box 20339, Greenville, NC 27858-0339 and not to us individually. That way, a record can be kept of all photographs, etc., received. There has been such demand for another photo-scanning project that it seems that we must plan one soon. Information will be posted when a date is set for it. Eleanor is "under the weather" right now, so If you have any questions about sending your photographs, please email me and I'll get your message to her. Thank you for helping make this project such a success! We have a great group of members. Janice
Brenda is out of town for a few days, so if you have messages for her or pictures to send, please send them to me (jtginnc@coxnc.rr.com) and I'll get them to her. Also, if you need any help with this mail list, please contact me privately and I'll be glad to help you. Janice

Ginni, On page 618 of "Martin County Heritage" James Staton and Patsy Rogers Wynn are mentioned as parents of James Robert (Bob) Wynn (b. Oct. 19, 1875, d. Sept 11, 1931). On Sept 18, 1894, Bob Wynn m Millid (Mid) Ann Ward (b. June 21, 1871, d. June 2, 1918). This is all that I found. Janice

I found Rachel Moye living with William H. Speight in the 1850 Greene Co. census. The age given exactly matches the dates on her headstone. That means that I am back to square one with Rachel and Thomas in the Greene Co. census. I had identified that Rachel and the one above, widow of Elbert Moye. Not so. Not giving up. Just changing gears. I still think I have my Priscilla Darden Moye Baker identified correctly because we have found estate papers with William A. Darden as a part of the transactions. But I'll need to switch gears on the Rachel Moye deal. Sitting down to study a printed version of a census instead of on the computer makes thinking easier somehow.
