    1. Re: [NC-PCFR] Bladen Co. Lookups
    2. Robin Nichols
    3. Linda, I purchased the census books from The Bladen Co Historical Society. I happen to see information on the society at the following web site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncbladen/bladen.htm They have quite a few publications that can be purchased. If you need more information you are welcome to borrow the census books. We don't live that far from each other. I received your note yesterday. It wasn't necessary for you to send me any money. Any lookups you can do for me is payment enough. I'll put the money in a research kitty to pay for postage and paper for yours or other researchers inquiries in the future. Stay in touch. Oh by the way yes I have two children 17 & 12 , a mother, a grandmother and a mother-in-law. My grandmother in-law passed this past Nov. If you are a mother, Happy Mothers Day to you also. Robin Avery Nichols >>> LdMel1@aol.com 05/09/02 11:18PM >>> Robin, Where did you purchase the books from? The 1870 NC Cen Index that I have by Heritage Quest has a lot of people left out that I have found in other records so I did not want to get any more from them. I plan to study the records you sent next week and look forward to it. It is going to help me with dates especially. I like to see evidence on my own so I can put the source in with my information. Don't know if you have children or you still have your Mother, but I do wish you a happy day Sunday. 2. Bill, I did respond to you about the Tuckers, back on May 5th. Please don't be dissapointed. Since I hadn't heard from you, I figured that you weren't interested. I've found everyone on this list to be very helpful. I have placed a copy of my letter at the bottom of this email. Bill, I have a partial copy of the book mentioned. I descend from the Tuckers and the Tysons thru the marriage of Lydia Tucker and Cornelius Tyson. So I do have a lot of Tuckers family info. I'll do some more checking to see if I can find another Charles. What's strange is that their daughters Adelaide's in-laws home was also placed in the Village of yesteryear at the Pitt County fairgrounds. Have you ever been there or do you have more info on this place Lisa

    1. [NC-PCFR] Darden, Swinson
    2. Martha Marble
    3. 1. Did two daughters of Abraham Darden marry Henry Swinson or were there two different Henry Swinsons. Are the dates correct? The Bible gives two marriages to Henry Swinson - Claodesia in May 1831 and her death in 1838 and Winifred in Sept 1831. Does anyone have an copy of the ORIGINAL Bible - mine is a typed copy. Could a mistake have been made in the death year of Claodesia? Should it have been 1831? Sounds like the first wife died right after her marriage and Henry remarried the sister immediately. Abraham Swinson was born in 1832 and appears to be the son of Winifred. Martha

    1. [NC-PCFR] William Darden Estate Sale
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Had totally forgotten that someone had sent me a copy of the estate sale for William Darden. Ten pages and very hard to read. No way I am going to type it up in detail but here are some highlights. I agree with Cliff Darden that probably his 3rd wife was named Frances. A FrancIs was one of the larger purchasers and there were a lot of household items like beds. Because it appears every little item was sold, I am going to assume he did not have a will. It was the custom to leave the widow at least a certain amount of household furniture and kitchen items. Of further interest, one of William's daughters by his third wife was named Susannah. There was a Susannah Hill who moved into Wayne Co right on the Greene Co line and lived on Appletree Swamp which I understand is part in Greene and Part in Wayne. Some of Abraham Darden's land was on Appletree. On a deed where Susannah Hill purchased land the WIT were Abraham and Sarah Darden of Northampton Co. It is thought that Abraham was William's brother. Susannah Hill was of the right age to be a sister to William - her husband is not known and it is thought he was dec before she moved. Not sure if the person who sent me that information has found out anything else. Martha His son in law, Joel Moye conducted the estate sale on 2 June 1801. Those making purchases were: Jonathan Frizzell, Randol Johnson, John Harper, Isaac Pipkin, William Hart, Jr, Hardy Handcock, William Moye, Jr, William Riddick, Jesse Moye, David Clarke, Gideon Olds, Thomas Dyer, John Pope, Jr, Thomas Dail, Enos Rogers, Charles Carr, Archibald Adams, Lucy Bowings, Dempsey Simmons, John Moore the hatter, Sarah Broom, George Moye, Cornelius Rawls, William Moye, Sr., William Turnage, Jr., John Moye, Thomas Holliday, Elias Carr, George Moye, Jr., Micajah Edwards, Abraham Turnage, James Jordan, William Williams, James Holland, John Joiner, Benjamin Tison, Alexander Parker, Joe Jackson, William Moore, Joel Moye, Jolly Olds, Richard Williams, Abraham Darden, Joeph Darden, Thomas Ormond and Francis Darden. Among the items offered for sale were a large bell, 6 horses, 13 sheep, ducks, geese, 24 cattle, 36 hogs, 5 feather beds and furniture, a Bible bought by Joel Moye, sermon books, silver buckles, silver shoe buckles, 1/2 dozen silver tea spoons, money scales, a still, coat, and spectacles. Ten pages of items right down to a single fish hook There was 677 acres of land, 12 slaves and bonds and notes from William Hart, Jr., Malcom McDuffie and Willis Darden (his assumed brother). Notes in the hands of Jethro Darden to be collected on William Hart Sr., Jesse Pipkin, ? Clark, Wm. Tison, Charles Williams, Sherard Hines. (did some of these people live in Hertford Co since that is where Jethro Darden lived) Provisions were set aside for the widow Darden. Part of the land was where he lived and 276 3/4 acres was adj to William Ormond.

    3. The Pitt Co. marriage index (1867-1924) at the court house shows Macon Glasgow Moye's parents to have been William and Mary Moye. Marriage occured Feb 7, 1877, in Greenville Township. An alternate spelling for Macon, often found in local documents, is "Meekin". Roger Kammerer's research shows that M. G.'s parents were William (son of George Moye and Feribee Bell) and Mary Harris (dau of James Harris and Lucretia _______). I don't believe that Roger has been able to determine the parents of that particular George Moye--there were many Georges! In my own notes, that George is filed under "Missing Links". 1. [NC-PCFR] Bakers/Carsons/Tysons in Pitt County and Greene
    2. Paula Baker
    3. Folks, Please read the message below that I received from Maxine if you would. Then I'm going to post some comments below it. I put Maxine's words in quotes. "I have only a little information on Lecitta (Carson) and John B. Baker. From Roger Kammerer (PCGR) notes from Pitt Co. deeds, bible records, supreme court case #2785 and #2016 Carson Vs. Baker, 1832 & 1833 Pitt County. He indicates that a Lecitta Carson (b. ?, d. before 1850), married John Bunyan Baker in 1826, who died ca. 1846 intestate, son of Jesse Baker and Rachel Carr??. There children were Henry (born abt. 1827), John T. Baker (b. abt 1828), Cleodicia (Dicey) Baker (b. abt 1831), Allen Baker (b. abt 1833), Absally (b. abt 1835), Sarah Baker (b. abt 1839), Ivy Baker (b. 1842), and Jesse Baker (b.abt 1844). Lecitta Carson had two sisters: Sarah (Sally) Carson, who married Allen Tyson, and Elizabeth Carson (1803-1859), who married first Edwin Norvill, and second Robert Willoughby. These three sisters were the children of Thomas Carson, Jr. and Rebecca Anderson. Deed Book EE, page 95: Land division for Thomas Carson, deceased, to Sarah (Carson) Tison, heir and Allen Tison, husband, Lisitta (Carson) Baker, heir and John Baker, husband; Elizabeth (Carson) Norvill. Dated 2-1827. One of John Bunyan Baker's brothers was Rev. William James Baker (1803-?) from Roads District, Pitt County. He was a Free Will Baptist minister. He married Marinda Moore. Jesse James Baker was another brother (1812-1886) who left Pitt County and moved to Goldsboro, Wayne County. He married Zilphi Anne Loftin (1820-1908). Other siblings were Absaly Baker (1809-1885), who married Turmell Murphy (1813-1894); Martha Baker (1807-?) who married Richard Carson; Benasa Baker; Rachel Baker (1800 - ?) This is all the information I have on John Bunyan Baker and Lecitta Carson Baker. They are my ancestors through their daughter Absally Baker who married Robert Thomas Willoughby. I hope this is helpful. Maxine" Okay, our James Baker in Greene Co born abt. 1804 could be a nephew of Jesse Baker and Rachel Carr. A cousin to all the Pitt County Bakers that Maxine listed, Absaly, John Bunyan Baker and William James Baker. In Greene Co, several Bakers in the 1850 census(who were all coopers by trade and could have been brothers to our James Baker born 1804) were Elijah Baker who married Mariah Hobbs, William Baker, Jesse Baker who married Mary "Polly" Cherry. Jesse Baker was also a Presbyterian minister who moved to Wilson County in 1860. In 1860 I have found a James H. Baker in the Wayne County census living in the Baker-Latham House, a hotel. He was working as a trader. This could be our James Hines Baker. The Baker running the hotel is Jesse James Baker, son of Jesse Baker and Rachel Carr. It's possible that his wife Josiann has died as the children have been split up and are living with two sets of grandparents, William Hobbs of Greene Co and James Baker of Greene Co. None of what I have written above is proven. This is just what my cousin and I have put together in our digging, which has been considerable. If you can add anything, please respond.
