    3. Linda - lindydail@yahoo.com - is going to manage the Dail project for Old Dobbers. She is getting her thoughts in order and will soon send a post to the lists asking Dail researchers to donate the files they have accumulated starting with the Records files. There will be overlap - feel sure more than one person has culled the census reports but she will take all the donations and check them against each other and then post one file giving everyone credit. I know there are a number of Dail researchers on these lists and none of us can figure out the early lines. Don't sit back and let others try to figure them out without all the information each of you has accumulated. Linda has a great record I have never seen and bet some of the rest of you haven't. Stay tuned. Martha

    2. Martha Marble
    3. For those of you who did not receive the URL on the Warrenton Land Fraud the URL is http://www4.ncsu.edu:8030/~rkoonts/war_frauds.html On the example of the entries in the Pruitt books on the Glasgow Land Fraud - Guy said Willis Pipkin did not have an heir by the name of Zach Pipkin so guess in at least some cases these men were making up the names of heirs in order to get the land. Not to mention the fact that Willis Pipkin did not die until 1818. Billy sent this URL for the Glasgow Land Fraud. As the author states in the intro, there are several ways to look at this event, and his is from the standpoint of how it affected the formation of the Court System in NC. It is a lengthy thesis. Pruitt went at it from a different angle and of course, he provides thousands of names. Both mention the involvement of Andrew Jackson probably because of revenge for the marriage to Rachel thinking she was divorced. http://www4.ncsu.edu:8030/~rkoonts/thesis.html Martha

    1. [NC-PCFR] Glascow Land Fraud
    2. Martha Marble
    3. This is subject I know almost nothing about but think Ruth does. Ran across several books the other day in the Tenn section at the DAR by Dr. Frank Pruitt who has done a lot of books on NC land records. Seems he has done a fair amount in Tenn also especially the early land which originated in NC. There are two books entitled "Glasgow Land Fraud Papers 1783 - 1800" and about 6 books on "Tennessee Land Entires". The same people involved in the Warrenton Land Fraud were involved in the Glasgow Land Fraud. Pruitt gives the background on the Tenn Land Fraud and then following the records at the NC Archives, goes into the many soldiers who were either cheated or whose name was used. It also goes into the many court cases found in the New Bern District Court Records and the Supreme Court Cases in NC. Unfortunately the records do not indicate where the person was from so it is hard to know if John Phillips was from Lenoir Co or some county in the western part of the state. There are cases a county is given and there are cases where the entry was legal where one assumes a heir took it up. At least it gives a person with the same surname as the present assignee. An example Willis Pipkin - 640 acres dec assigned by Zach Pipkin to J. G. Blount - Willis Pipkin was found to still be alive in Wayne Co - forged by John McNees. From doing just a little reading I assume that someone took out an entry in the name of Willis Pipkin, claimed him to be dead, and Zach Pipkin (Guy was he a son?) assigned the entry to J. G. Blount. John McNees must have forged all these names or was in business with Blount. McNees was from present day Greene Co and there were intermarriages with the Parrotts and they all left the area and went to Darlington Co. McNees was one of Glasgow's right hand men in this fraud, along with some of the Blounts, Sheppards, Glasgow's inlaws, and others around the state. Might explain one reason why so many people left the area about this time - they were probably running for their lives. On the other books - just have not had time to really study all these books but it appears some of these entries are redundant and some aren't. Again, you have to know who you are looking for. Many people in NC left and went to Tenn to take up their land but many didn't. It would take weeks to study these books - took me an hour just to figure out how to use the index. Pruitt has done us all a BIG favor as these books are a potential gold mine of information. The names are from all over the state. Sorry, I don't have time to do individual look-ups - a quick check did not even turn up any of my own families that I could prove. Try inter library loan. Martha

    1. Re: [NC-PCFR] Brenda's Report on PCFR's August Meeting...
    2. Lisa: In April or May of this year, you and I exchanged emails and covered lots of genealogy topics regarding our families, especially the Willoughby surname and my Aunt Trilby Owens. To answer your question...No,sorry, I am not the son of James William and Betty Faye Fowler Todd. I have 5 brothers...the brother just older than I am is, indeed, James William Todd, now deceased, who was married to Betty Faye Fowler, now of Myrtle Beach. Next, I refer to your question as to whether I know the parents names of my 4th Great Grandmother Martha Bev Spivey. Answer: It seems to me that you are basing your question on the assumption that I may be the son of James William Todd and Betty Faye Fowler. I assume then that Martha Bev Spivey would be Betty Faye's 3rd Great Grandmother. Yes, that is correct. And she is the 4th Great Grandmother of Betty Faye's daughter, Jamie Marie Todd, who is my favorite niece. I checked the relationship of Martha Bev Spivey with my FTM relationship calculator. Your next question, the answer....no, while my records do include Martha Bev Spivey, sorry, I do not have the names of her parents. I'm sure you know that there is an awesome number of Fowlers and related surnames reaching way back to and prior to our earliest colonial days. Wow!! Good talking with you again. I will check out our relationship re your grandfather and the collins of Pitt County. Will also see how we might relate re the Harris Family. Take care and, with a little luck, maybe I will see you at the PCFR Reunion in October... Jack
