    3. Tracy Putnam posted this reminder on the Greene Co. list. I know some of our Pitt County researchers are interested in this new genealogy society being formed in Greene, Lenoir, and Jones counties. This is their first meeting. Hope some of you Pitt researchers with roots in Greene, Jones and Lenoir will support this group by attending this meeting if possible. Also contact the head of the Port of Plymouth Museum, Mr. Harry Thompson, I believe. His email address is porto@williamstonnc.com. He did a program for the Edgecombe Co. Gene. Society on the Lewelling Conspircacy. He can give you back ground information on the whole thing. Contact Traci Thompson at the Edgecombe Memorial Library (Tarboro NC) and she will look up what is in the Colonial Records for you. Also ask her to look in the ECGS Newsletter for the article or material that I entered on the Lewelling Conspircacy. I have some listing in the newsletter that I know concerns Danial Buntin. If you have access to a history collection or genealogical collection that concerns NC, they may have the set of books concerning the Colonial Records. Since I don't know where you are it is hard to advise you. There is many documents at the archives concerning the Conspiracy. A Danial Buntin is arrested and held for a witness against some of the conspirators. Very interesting case. 1. [NC-PCFR] Help Save Wyse Fork Battlefield
    2. Jane Phillips
    3. It has been a year since Mr. Walters requested rezoning of a piece of property located on Highway 70 East near the Baron and the Beef Restaurant a few miles outside of Kinston. This property is in the edge of the core area of the Wyse Fork Civil War Battlefield. This area had breastworks, a Confederate battery and was a staging area for the troops (8000 men) of General Bragg and General Hoke. Since last year the Civil War Preservation Trust tried to negotiate a deal to purchase the property but Mr. Walters was asking far to much. The Lenoir County Battlefields Commission has been organized under the umbrella of the Historical Preservation Group and has been busy with preservation plans. Mr. Walters is going before the Kinston City Council on September 16 at 7 pm to again ask for the rezoning of the same piece of property for the same reasons. That is for the purpose of developing a modular and mobile home park. The Historical Preservation Group Board of Directors will be present to protest this rezoning. HPG would like to have your help and support in this matter. Your presence at the meeting would be a really big help as the council really take notice of a large presence of support and it could make the difference in the vote. However I know many of you live out of town and this will not be possible for you to do. So if you would send an e-mail requesting denial of rezoning of the Walters' Property to the following council members it would be appreciated. ADDRESS TO Mayor Johnny Mosley Councilwoman Alice Tingle Councilman Van Braxton Councilman Gordon Vermillion Councilman Joe Tyson Councilman Jimmy Cousins carol.barwick@ci.kinston.nc.us PLEASE PASS THE WORD TO OTHERS THAT WILL HELP. THANKS FOR THE HELP!!

    1. [NC-PCFR] Sloan, Old Dobbers and Harpers
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Guy is going to concentrate on the county archives as he has gotten swamped. Tracy will be the webmaster of Old Dobbers but she has just taken a full time paying job in her spare time this week so her time is going to be limited. Sloan has agreed to work with her especially in posting the Joint Surname Projects and she has just finished the first project - the Greene County Harpers. Knowing nothing about websites, just realized last night why it was taking so long to get these reports posted. Tracy has been going through the reports line by line re-formatting so each line has a complete sentence. It takes hours and hours to do that not to mention more patience than I have. Sloan and I have opted just to post and not worry about how many words are on a line with no apology. Now, as to the Greene Co Harpers which also includes Pitt Co - our conclusions are quite different than what has always been written. We are comfortable with the Alexander line but not with the Francis line. Just not enough documentation. Mild heart attacks with comments are welcome especially documentation. Also, we think the Lenoir Co Harpers are connected so those of you working that family are encouraged to post your information on this joint project. The URL for Old Dobbers is (I remembered) http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~paday/dobbers/index.htm Joint Surname Projects - Harper John, I forgot to credit you in the intro but you are credited in the Francis report. We appreciate Guy's work, Tracy's williness to be the main webmaster and Sloan, her assistant. In the works for a Joint Project are the Dail and Carr families. Any of you are welcome to start and manage one. Martha and Francis
