Several months ago, I forwarded a message about efforts to move and restore the historic Dawson-Jarrell House in Grifton, NC. The house was damaged by flooding from Hurricane Floyd in 1999. Some of you contacted me desiring to make donations to this worthwhile effort, so I thought you would be interested in the latest news on this project. In the November 1 edition of The Daily Reflector (Greenville, Pitt Co., NC) is a photograph of the house-moving. Here is the text accompanying the photo. THIS OLD HOUSE A historic Grifton home was moved early Thursday about three blocks from where it was damaged by flooding from Hurricane Floyd in 1999. The Dawson-Jarrell House, built in 1896, was cut in half prior to the move. It will be reasembled and restored at its new location on the corner of Church and Cannon streets. The restoration project will be funded by the Grifton Community Historical and Arts Society with help from a $10,000 donation by Pitt County, according (to) historical society member Frances Mewborn. In the 1880 census I found a James I Humbles with wife Nancy H Humbles. Living with them was a brother-in-law Warren Wetherington. Could this be Holland Witherington (Worthington), daughter of Gideon and Nancy Harper b in Pitt Co married to Jimmie Humbles? Jean jow@kua.net We all have ancestors buried in our past

I was at a Meeks/Gurganus cemetery. Its in the back yard of a home. I took pics too. I think I gave them to Ann one the xrds@yahoogroups.com members. Try emailing her and asking. My uncle was a Meeks and we went to the cemetery but I am not directly related to them. I am pretty sure I sent lots of pics to Ann. You can check their archives too. _________________________________________________________________ Get faster connections -- switch to MSN Internet Access! http://resourcecenter.msn.com/access/plans/default.asp
What is your uncle`s name? Interested in any information you may have about him and his family. How do I go about accessing the photos? Thanks
Stephen, Since I don`t have my directions to the Meeks/Gurganus cemetary with me, would you contact the person looking for cemetary directions, give the directions and ask, if they have time and feel so inclined, to photograph this one. I haven`t forgotten your desire to have the lineage of Mary E. Meeks. I`ll get it to you as soon as I can get a few minutes without kids around. Thanks, Shirley

Some of you may already know this but others might not. Have not worked in Va counties in a number of years and was very pleased to see a couple of books now available for Norfolk Co. There are still no deed abstracts, but Emily L. Walker has done an Index to the Deeds from 1646 to 1780. Those of you who have tried to work in that county know the shape of their deeds, if they still exist so this will tell you exactly where to go look. There are two books called General Index to Deeds. Not sure if Heritage Place has a copy but just sent them an email about them so no doubt they will order them. Not an Abel Dail among them either as Grantor or Grantee. Martha
Sloan has the first three generations of the Carr family up on Old Dobbers http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~paday/dobbers/index.htm Joint Projects - Carr generations 4 & 5 to come. Many thanks to all who have contributed information on this family and all the allied families spread over many NC counties and many southern states especially Mississippi. This project is an excellent example of what the internet and these lists can do in the way of locating documents especially Bibles that left the home area. This project had been shelved many years ago because of all the holes and there are still holes, but Jack plugged a lot of them with his Mississippi contributions. Maybe some of the rest of you have something to add to plug more holes. We also thank Sloan for all her time and work. Ruth and Martha
