I do see the Holloway name in next door Brunswick along with another possible related cousin type Wilson family who ended up in Gibson Co TN in 1840s and whose funeral there was paid for by our Wilson of that generation. I am thinking this is an old (not quite anchent planter family and the Holloways also were an early family. I see the name quite early. That would mean the Holloways could have gone all sorts of directions without really loosing touch as could the Wilsons. I suspect Bacon's Rebellion to be a factor in all of this. Have tried to work both up this family and down...lots of suggestion, no absolute proof earlier than 1719. The Braswell family seemed almost a lighting rod for Bacon's followers. Unusal because the first generation was an Angilcan priest in Isle of Wight. He had one dau, whose husband (Stokes) was hung in the Rebellion, one son-in-law William West who was captured and escaped long enough for the climate to change regarding the English view of the Rebels. There was a James Wilson who was also hung and may have been the father or grandfather of our William who married the granddau of the Anglican priest, Braswell. There were several others who I would have to look up after Christmas. The Cottons were very involved with our Wilsons and John Cotton's wife Ann/An of New Kent VA wrote a surviving letter about the Rebellion to someone in England. One of our William Wilson's grandaus married one of Ann Cotton's grandsons in Halifax NC. > > ESTATE RECORDS > 1 John Holloway d 1799 - instate - children were Vincent, James, John, > Edmond, Shadrack, Lizzy, and Eley - widow was Mary - Mary died soon after > and Vincent and James became administrator. Then Vincent died. Eley md > James Houston Eley was the name of Jane Braswell Stokes Roberts last husband...I am doing all of this from memory so anyone who has an interest needs to contact me after Christmas.... Not positive of the order of Jane Stokes 2nd and 3rd husbands.

    2. I am seeking information on CLAUDE THOMAS JONES. He married LELA WILSON. Their birth and death dates are unknown. However, he information I have said they both died somewhere between ~1940 & 1945. They lived in or around Ayden, NC, Pitt County. Thanks, in advance, for any help or information you can provide me. 3. Marilyn, >In Bertie Co, John Griffin was adjoining our William Wilson and Richard >Braswell on Cashie Swamp in 1720s. The Griffins that married into the Holloway family in Craven Co were out of ESVA and that is proven; however, they did marry into the Bryan family in Craven Co and the Bryans were out of IOW. This Griffin >family did marry one of the Braswells in Nash or it's forerunner county. > >On the 1850 census in Pitt Co, Samuel and Harriet (Holloway) Wilson have >included in their household Samuel's sister Catherine who died without >surviving children and a 78 year old man, Edmond Holloway, I assume the >father of Harriet Wilson. I have a note under Edmond that he lived in Pitt County but have not followed his line. His parents were John Jr and Ann Griffin as far as I know; however, John's widow was Mary, surname unknown so there is some questions on generations. Something about the various John and William Holloways is not right and some of it I have proven to be wrong but not all of it and not sure what is correct. Lot of conflicting information between two legal cases one in NC and one in SC plus a Bible. John Holloway was bc 1732 as he was 18 in 1752 when he chose John Williams as his guardian and his parents were John and Ann ? Holloway. Williams was his stepfather. It is said this John moved to Ga but Craven records indicate he stayed in Craven and died there ca 1798. There is a copy of a Bible at the DAR that states he went to Ga but the list of children in that Bible is identical to the list of children of his brother William who moved either to SC or Ga depending on which record you believe. That list of children comes from the Court Equity case in Sumter Co, SC. That Bible was printed many years after the entires so I have elected to go with the Court Records in SC. There is no question that the father of Edmund was a John who died in Craven Co. Question is which John. No but Sally Griffin md Richard Coulton (also written as Carlton and Couttan) and they were of (Craven County) according to the Bryan-Griffin Supreme Court Case and a bunch of these people ended up in Pitt Co. Sally was the niece of the two Griffin sisters who married Holloway brothers and both said to have gone to Ga. You might want to look in Craven Co. > >How would I go about finding this deposition? The Court Equity case from Sumter Co, SC was in PCFR Quarterly a number of years ago - at least 5 years. You might want to check the indices for the Quarterlies which I believe are on the PCFR website. The Bryan-Griffin case was in the NC Genealogical Quarterly about the same time. You have had me busy today. None of my Holloway information was on the database so have been entering some of it while wrapping presents. Maybe that will make it easier to see what might be correct on this early family. Fortunately my line was down Isabelle, sister to Elizabeth who married Daniel Wilson. Isabelle married Francis Nunn III and they moved to Lenoir Co. 3. Thanks for the reply, Martha; In Bertie Co, John Griffin was adjoining our William Wilson and Richard Braswell on Cashie Swamp in 1720s. Some of what seem to be John Griffin's offspring appear in Nash Co starting back before it was formed. There they also are adjoining Wilsons who are descended from William Wilson and Rebecca Braswell/Bracewell. This Griffin family did marry one of the Braswells in Nash or it's forerunner county. On the 1850 census in Pitt Co, Samuel and Harriet (Holloway) Wilson have included in their household Samuel's sister Catherine who died without surviving children and a 78 year old man, Edmond Holloway, I assume the father of Harriet Wilson. Daniel Wilson is mentioned only once in Edgecombe Co, in 1758 as Witness for a deed from Rchd. 3. Nobles is one of the names way down the line in my family tree that I have not yet gotten around to personally researching. Just wondering if Charlie or any others have any info/documentation on the following individual: John Nobles estimated date of birth 1715-1720. Said to have married Elizabeth Ward in Tyrrell County, NC 1740's. Died in Pitt County, NC 1773. I see that John Ward's Tyrrell County will dated 1748/9 names Elizabeth Noble as his daughter. Do we know for sure that she was in fact the wife of this same John Nobles named above? Is there a later Tyrrell County deed in which John and Elizabeth Nobles sell the land that she inherited in her father's will? Any clues appreciated. 2. Hi, Where do these other family names fit in with the Keels? My maiden name is Keel, grandfather-William Henry Keel, father-Thomas Hardy Keel. I`ve started researching the Keel family. Can`t find much of anything on my grandfather. He is from the Robersonville area of NC. Seems like he was married to a Catherine Rogerson before he married my grandmother, Beulah M. Godwin. A rift occurred in the family way back then. I`d like to contact others from the family. Shirley Keel Kingsley

She has about ? 260 pages of documented Webb lines included and has spent many, many hours in court houses and the state archives searching for records. The price of the book, if you decide that you would like a copy will be $35 plus shipping which probably will average out to around $40. 1. Re: [NC-PCFR] Re STOKES. / Wilson
    2. Jack &Marilyn
    3. Calvin; The Braswells/Bracewells were from Isle of Wight. The Wilsons were probably from Isle of Wight, Southampton, Surry or Brunswick. Some of each of these families stayed in VA, but some arrived in NC (Bertie & Northampton) in the very early 1700s. We do have a Wilson - Cox marriage later in Gibson Co, TN. I don't know from where these Cox had migrated. Following a common name like Wilson, I finally had to start following any associated names I can find. Our line of Wilsons used John, William, James, & Thomas (real helpful in sorting out who is whom. Ha!). However, they do also use the name Shade or Shadrack. Using Shade or Shadrack as a marker name, I have found a family in Surry VA that is likely but so far no concrete proof of a connection, just strong circumstantial evidence. Also this Pitt Co family: Samuel Wilson & Harriet Holloway family in Pitt named a son William Shade Wilson. Samuel Wilson was the son of Willis Wilson of Pitt probably (indicated by Willis' Pension Record). Where in VA did these Stokes come from and when? Thanks for your reply to my post.
