Ruth; Would you mind if I posted your information below on the Edgecombe_Wilson_Nash_Halifax@Yahoogroups.com site? The museum has one very involved volunteer who posts there and they do not know this information and would be interested in the connection between Rev Nathaniel Blount and Gen Thomas Blount. Do I understand correctly that the father's of Nathaniel and Gen Thomas were brothers, both sons of Thomas Blount, the elder and Ann Eliza Reading Blount making Nathaniel the nephew of Gen Thomas Blount the original owner of the Blount-Bridger House Museum in Tarboro? Now if I could just prove that Rev James Lewis Wilson of Martin & Edgecombe close associate of Rev Nathaniel Blount of Pitt & Edgecombe was related also, we would have completed the circle. I have the following: Louisa Ann Blount b: 24 Nov 1794 d. 22 Nov 1817, married Joseph Wilson Worthington on 17 Sept 1811 and had four children. Joseph was born on 11 Feb 1787. John B. Grimes jgrimes227@aol.com Fairfax Station, VA 22039-2729
Lisa, I can answer that question. As best as we can accertain the first family to arrive in America was a Widdrington or a Witherington. Possibly because the pronounciation and that many people did not know how to read or write the name became corrupted as they arrived in North Carolina. Some changed it to Worthington and others forgot to dot the "i" and it became Wetherington and others added an "a" to make it Weatherington. The Blount-Bridger House in Tarboro, NC, was, I believe, connected to Thomas Blount, son of Jacob Blount of "Blount Hall" Pitt Co., NC. General Thomas was b. May 10, 1759 - d. Feb. 7, 1812 in Washington, D.C, & buried in D.C. (I think in the Congressional Cemetery there ). He was NC Rep. in Congress.. He left no issue. He was m. twice. 1st: 1782, Martha Baker, and 2nd, in 1796, Mary Jacqueline (Jackey) Sumner, d/o Gen. Jethro Sumner. Jackey d. Dec. 18, 1822, in her 45th year. I haven't looked at that Blount material in ages, but think that is the connection to the Blount-Bridger House in Tarboro. Nathaniel Blount would have been connected to Thomas Blount through his father, Reading Blount, who was a son of Thomas Blount & wife Anne Eliz. Reading. Gen. Thomas Blount (Congressman) was a son of Jacob Blount. Jacob Blount was also a son of Thomas Blount & wife Anne Eliz. Reading. If I haven't confused you, that is the way Nathaniel & Thomas (congressman ) are connected, and how the house in Tarboro acquired the Blount part of the Blount-Bridger name.
